What the hell, Future? You just beating yourself up over there?

By the way, Clemson was NOT the second best team in the ACC. That would be Virginia Tech. (Not that they fared that greatly against SEC teams themselves this year, loss to Alabama).

So Lunk, if you happened to catch Saturday’s debacle, did your ladyfriend really rub it in your face or was that the type of game where you almost feel sorry for seeing your loved one’s team get pulverized?

Future & I will be at the rematch tonight…I really hope the trend of the Pens not being able to win at MSG (regular season anyway) holds up.

She’s still in Pittsburgh taking care of her mom so I didn’t have to deal with it. I probably would have needed to leave the house.

By the way, WTF chicken shit Matt Cooke? Games in hand, you’re embarrassing the other team… And yoù go for some kid’s head?

By the way: proof that the NHL doesn’t penalize the Penguins. Cooke started the season with like 10 straight games without a penalty.

Another example of the inconsistencies of NHL justice, Glencross (dude that nailed Drury) was a first time offender, gets 3 games. Cooke had a prior suspension on his resume, 2 games. Really NHL, really?

I went to Target on BF, but missed out on the 32” for $246. Ended up buying a 40” for pretty good price, but what a waste of a good lie-in.

I didn’t realize the Isles vs. Lowell Devils was another daygame, missed it and was pleasantly surprised by the score. I caught the Devils in 60 – turns it could have been a worse beating since the Devs hit metal 5 times and had another goal whistled in but disallowed. Isles still looked good at times – much better than the Rangers anyway.

So, Omar is close to re-signing Dessens. Um, what for?

The whole team is a mess, from behind the bench to the ice. The secondary scoring, well from the forwards, will probably not get solved this season. The soft positioning and running around in their own zone is plain as day that you wonder what they talk about in practice and film sessions, and the goaltending is becoming an issue. Obviously they had it in them to go 7-1-0 so they’ve shown they can play well but the lack of adjustments made by the coaching staff is very puzzling if not worrisome.

We certainly have the TALENT in secondary scoring. I mean, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t have three twenty plus goal scorers on the second line to back up the big #1 line. For some reason, the team philosophy is not working for them. They aren’t generating any chances at all. I think the part of the reason is that there isn’t a natural playmaker of any caliber on the 2nd line. I think this is where the development of Anisimov could really factor in but Torts seems relegated to playing him in third line shifts which isn’t helping his development.

And that’s part of the problem. The theory is that this team should be playing defense by playing an up tempo offense. But the only line that is currently playing that was is Gaborik’s line.

Also, the fourth line is garbage which is making it even more difficult. Boyle is okay but Brashear and Voros are just utterly useless in almost any scenario.

  46. Comment posted by Rave on November 30, 2009 at 11:56 am (#1116493)

The Rangers looked discombobulated vs. the Pens. No cohesion, everybody just skating around chasing pucks and accomplishing nothing. Crosby had so much time and room to operate I felt sorry for the goalie. Lamaire would have benched em all.
    ==
Most teams have crap 4th lines. I’m just happy the Devils now have a second line. Rolston-Elias-Langenbrunner has looked really good so far. Also, Elias game me the exact word I’ve been searching for to describe Parise: relentless. He’s not the best skater, or the fanciest stick-handler, or the toughest guy on ice, but he’s relentless.

A legit set up man would help on the 2nd or 3rd lines but Higgins and Cally look like they can’t flip the puck in the ocean off the edge of a very short pier.

And yes, Voros and Brashear are pretty useless. $2.4MM is not a huge cap hit, but like the middle relievers in a bullpen, you should not be paying premiums to FA’s to play on the 4th line. Get a scrap heap player or a limited ceiling kid to do that role.

Yup, I’ve rarely seen Parise either weave his way through the D and pick a corner or snap a laser past the goalie. He gets a lot of jam in goals, I wouldn’t call them garbage goals because he still does most of the work. And while his speed isn’t blinding, his balance is among the best in the game. He’ll be the only US goal scoring forward that can match up to the other countries elite snipers. I’d put him on a line with either Phil Kessel or Patrick Kane and see if they can work some magic in Vancouver.

Parise is just so good at, no matter what position he’s in, getting off a laser wrist shot at the spot where the goalie isn’t. That’s the most important skill a goal scorer can have.

    So Lunk/Future:

Having gone through with my Cyber Monday purchase* of another Rangers jersey (away white, blank), the question now becomes what player to get on this one.

To re-hash what I already have:

    Gaborik in white
Staal (which covers up Gomez) in blue
    Leetch in white from 1994
Lundqvist in white (autographed so I never wear it to a game)

I’m leaning toward Del Zotto. Although at the time of purchasing Gaborik, it was between him and Dubinsky.

Seriously, I think ND will have to settle on a coach. No A1 coach wants that spotlight right now and no coach wants all that recruitment headache in the offseason. They have no local pool of talent to draw a base and that new coach will have to fly from coast to coast begging some HS kid and his parents in FL, TX, CA, OH, etc. to play for ND. You can’t sell ND tradition to a 17 or 18 year old these days. They don’t care.

The Mets signed free-agent C Chris Coste today, according to Jeff Kolpack of the Forum of Fargo-Moorhead.

Coste, 36, told Kolpack the deal guarantees him a spot on the 40-man roster, “although he said it isn’t a given that he’ll be on the opening-day roster.”

Coste hit .224 in 88 games with the Phillies and Astros last season, during which he played 15 games at first base.

…he used to be a pretty good hitter earlier in his career, when he wrote the book, The 33–year-old Rookie… i don’t recall him being known for his arm behind the plate, or stellar defense… i mean, he is more or less a back-up’s back-up at this point, and will probably compete for a job in spring training…

…i wonder if this means no Henry Blanco, or, will the Mets be looking to corner the market on all-defense, no-hit, ‘gritty,’ veteran, catchers…
