    Pelfrey got a pay cut?

The mets also picked up pitcher Mike Pelfrey’s $500,000 option for next season, which adds up to an $850,000 pay cut. Pelfrey’s 4 year $5.25 contract expired after the 2009 and he is not eligible for arbitration until after next season.

SEATTLE (AP)—San Francisco Giants ace Tim Lincecum(notes) has an agreement with a prosecutor in his home state of Washington that could settle his misdemeanor marijuana charge, The Columbian reported Friday.

The Vancouver, Wash., newspaper said Clark County prosecutors have reached a deal with a lawyer for the 2008 Cy Young Award winner that would result in a $250 fine for possessing a marijuana pipe.

Grant Hansen, a Clark County deputy prosecutor, told the newspaper his office is willing to dismiss a misdemeanor charge of possessing 3.3 grams of marijuana.

“We negotiated the case in the manner we do with just about every first-time marijuana-drug paraphernalia case where the individual is cooperative with the officer,” Hansen told The Columbian. “We dismissed possession of marijuana and amended the other charge to buying or selling drug paraphernalia, a Class A civil

That idea is gaining strength and popularity among a segment of the overweight population that feels as though traditional dieting to lose weight does more harm than good, ultimately benefiting the $30 billion weight loss industry, not the public.

“I get so angry when I feel people pushing a weight-loss agenda,” said Linda Bacon, a nutrition professor at City College of San Francisco and author of “Health at Every Size,” a book published last year whose title has become the rallying cry of the fat pride community. “What we’re doing in public health care policy is harmful. We give a direct and clear message that there’s something wrong with being fat.”

A federally financed study by Ms. Bacon, published in the book, found that there were many people who could be healthy in fat bodies.

Ms. Wann used some of Ms. Bacon’s findings as her talking points when she visited legislators with other lobbyists for “fat acceptance” in May.

i was in navy rotc @ notre dame and spent a good portion of my pg life as a naval officer. but my first allegiance is to notre dame. so i am quite upset…

i try not to go near the campus on football saturdays. it is such a circus and the traffic is real bad; it must be like a funeral over there , or at least it should be…
