Thanks for being the only one that decided to bring your bat tonight Church.

Church has good STREAKS as a hitter, I can’t deny that. But the inconsistency kills me.
Very true. Hes very up and down. Hopefully, he can get it together and become a descent player. I really think theres hope for him. Plus, like i said hes a tremendous OF.

The thing with Milldge is when you hear the names like Manny or Oswalt in trades w/ them and than end up w/ Church and Schnido its a big let down anyway you cut it.

Sad thing is this has been the theme of the entire team. We get guys hot and then they go 0-16.

I know its still early but what do you guys think of F! now that hes been up for a bit?

Agreed, without question. We shouldve traded him when his value was high. Unfortunately, we didnt which was a big mistake. Sometimes you have to gamble.

Even if he amounts to nothing, which is possible, he was traded for two guys whose equivalent skills you could’ve gotten as waiver pick-ups.
I think thats a lil bit off there.
For his career Schneider has been 9.1 wins above replacement (your typically wavier guy_
Church 6.9 WAR
With the Mets they have combined for 2.0 for church and 2.0 for scheider.
Last season
Schneider had 1.6 WAR good for a 7.3 M dollars on the open market……we paid 4.9M
Church had a 1.6 WAR good for 7.3M dollars on the open market…we paid 2.0
so we paid 6.9M total so far for these guys and they have produced 4.0 WAR which normally would cost 14.6M

Definately overmatched at this point and definately trying to hard to impress, but lets not forget hes only 20. He still has potential ;-)

Totally agree with this, I recall the BoSox wanting to give us ManRam for him.

I mean, I’m one of the last people on Earth not related to Lastings still waving the flag for the dude and… yeah.
Even I will say, that’s the real loss. If they had traded him for something good, if he had been the dude in the Santana deal, I would’ve simply wished the dude well in Minneapolis and moved on.
But as it was… that’s the real problem.

We’re running out of positions to hide you Murphy.

I would love to hear how Keith Hernandez took Daniel Murphy aside and gave him some pointers (both defensively and offensively).

I like F! and wish he wasnt pressed into this situation. If guys like Delgado and Reyes were around he would be viewed more complementary and prbly not feel so much pressure to perform.

Yep, him and that one SP we sent to Arizona. Cant recall his name. He kind of flamed out. Its a shame b/c we were getting major interest in Millz and did nothing. When your getting Big names like Oswalt and Manny, im sorry, you have to go for it. The Bosox gave up Hanley, who is a heck of a player but they got a top notch starter that has helped them win 2 W.S titles.

When your knee caps have begun decomposing into dust, you need a few more off-days than you used to.

Beckett was only on the most recent BoSox WS team.
Murphy might very well be out of baseball in 3 years unless he turns into the next Edgar Martinez.

I’m not saying that Church is completely valueless, I’m saying that he’s not skilled to the point where you couldn’t have gotten an equivalent player on the FA market, without giving up ANY prospects.
He’s an okay hitter against righties and he’s an above-average but hardly exceptional fielder in right.
You can get that skillset any winter for a million or less without trading away a chip.
Eh, games like that are going to happen. Not that Castillo himself would be a difference maker but
out of position Tatis doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. Jerry needs to learn that there’s really no way to optimize the lineup with their current selection of players. At least put people in positions that they’re familiar with.
But Livan sucked big time so they almost didint have a prayer.
Comment posted bylittlefallsmetson July 3, 2009 at 9:51 pm (#1025782)
Yeah. This game was written in stone the moment Livan was slotted in as the starting pitcher. No more, no less. Hard to get TOO worked up about a fait-accompli.

The NL is going to win the AS game this year…you heard it here first. Of course, I have said it for the last 3 years.
Yeah well that’s probably what Yankees fans were saying about Nieve after the Castillo dropped ball game.
I understand taking a Loy of pitches first time through the order but they allowed the guy to constantly work ahead in the count so they didn’t make it that hard for the guy to cruise.
