The thing that has saved the Mets the embarrassment of being 8 back at this point is the awful play of the Phils. The Phils will definitely be up for this after having just been swept by the Braves. Are the Mets even capable of getting up for this? Sure hope so.

Lol @ the Braves. Freaking dominating Philly this year. Braves still not a good team. Outside of starting pitcher and two relievers, they have nothing. Yet, they have already won the season series vs the Phillies. Our division sucks

nice writeup by toby hyde about holts start last night. some encouraging news about his secondary pitches :)
Yeah, hate to say this but hopefully we don’t wake up the sleeping dog. Because unlike the phils our ship is not equipped to go into ludicrous speed….just yet

I think the best thing about Philly being the suck right now has not forced Omars hand in trading players such as FMart, Thole, Holt or Wilmer. Eventually we may have to make a trade but it will be some time later on this month when teams dont have OMar by his sack…the nut that is.;)
Yeah the Phils have a team that’s better equipped to actually play good ball but their pitching woes have been a problem virtually all season long. They are very much like the late summer 2007 Mets with Rollins subbing for Delgado in the season long slump role, Ibanez for Alou and their middle relief for Guillermo Mota. Also they’re already dipping into their pool of retreads a la Dave Williams and Brian Lawerence. They even got swept in Atlanta, very Mets-like indeed.
Comment posted byMetsFanSince71on July 3, 2009 at 2:29 pm (#1025605)
however….you KNOW philly is gonna make a trade and get more pitching, you just know it!
And I’ve been saying this for a while but exactly who are they going to acquire for their staff that isn’t going to strip most of their major league ready farm or someone meaningful from their 25 man roster?
If he back end of their pen continues to falter they are going to have to bring in at least 2 guys. If all it took was 1 pitcher then I’d say they were in a good position but with NL East and wildcard races looking tight it will be a very competetive marketplace.

I forgot to tell you guys this. Some idiot at the US Open two weeks ago was wearing a cardinal baseball cap with a LOUD 2006 red WS Champs T-Shirt. I walked by him 3 or 4 times during the day (it was very hard not to spot this asshat in a crowd). When I was a bit buzzed towards the end of the day I told him half joking/half serious “hey buddy, the Cards sucked”. He looked at me and said…”are you that Tigers fan I met at the 17th hole”. I then paused…realizing how much of an idiot this guy was… I went from half joking to serious….looked at him and said
“no, I’m only one of the thousands of met fans at Bethpage State Park in Long Isand today, which is located less than 15 miles from Flushing, that detest your freakin’ choice of clothes today” He looked at me and laughed. I walked away.

No no, specifically, it was the moment that Cliff Goddamned Floyd dragged himself on the ground… unable to use his legs, hand over hand like an infant or a dying man crawling out of a foxhole to distract the enemy for his friends to escape because he was gonna die anyway… up to the plate to have a completely ineffective pinch at-bat and everyone in the world other than Willie Randolph knew it.
That was the exact nanosecond all was lost.

Yes, but you HAVE to get the one run in with less than two outs. More would have been great. But just scoring that run without even needing a hit…. that changes the game. Endy had to get a hit to score someone. That’s more forgivable. Valentin just had to put it in the play.

I was at Game 7, Section 11 Upper Reserves. My first game at Shea above the age of 21 (10 years running) that I did not drink one beer inside the stadium. I refused to miss a pitch on bathroom lines.
My Game 7 heartbreaks:
1)ND and Stache rally killing AB’s with bases loaded stranding all 3 runners in the bottom of the inning that ND made The Catch.
2)Yadier…obviously (or should I say Heilman)
3) Reyes frozen rope liner to the CF’er which might of tied up the game.
4) Willie not bunting and putting in a hobbled warning trak powered, ground ball away from a season ending DP Cliff Floyd.
5) Tron’s AB with bases juiced to end the game on that nasty 12-6

But had the Mets had the balls to keep Floyd off the NLCS roster and have ANYBODY else in that last-bat-off-the-bench role, you just can’t know what would’ve happened.

Floyd was practically on a goddamned ventilator at that point. But Willie Randolph thought that a dude on a walker could be Kirk fucking Gibson.
I would still punch Cliff Floyd in the face if I met him in the street for allowing Minaya and Randolph to put him on the active roster for the LCS.
