I don’t think money will be an issue for alot of teams looking for Johnson. But no way should a GM from an NL team offer as much as a GM from an AL squad who can afford to keep Johnson around as a 1B/DH player. We are at such a disadvantage if we enter that market.

    8. Juan Urbina, LHP, Venezuela

    Height/Weight: 6′2″/175

Urbina is a projectable lefty, and is the son of Ugueth Urbina. A number of teams are interested in him because of a fastball that’s hit 92 that he throws with solid command, as well as for his good feel for a breaking ball. The buzz is that he’s already reached a verbal deal with the Mets for $800,000, but Urbina contends that he’s still uncommitted. One interested club says he is indeed off the market, and left some money on the table; the Royals, Cubs, Padres, and Rangers are among those still hoping to land Urbina.

    hmmm.

something tells me the media would salivate over this.

    METS SIGN SON OF BUTCHER!

you really think Johnson is going to get Type A status?

    not gonna happen

I know people love his High on base % and they say hes descent witht the glove but I have to tell you 6 errors on the season already and he has zero pop. Id rather just stick Murphy out there. If were gonna get a bat I want a real legit bat, and a guy whos not injury prone. Has soon as we sign him you know hes gonna get the stomach flu and be out for a week

We’re also linked to one of the 5 guys listed as “Other Names of Note”

    * Dionicio Ramirez, C, Venezuela: The Phillies, Indians, and Mets are interested in this compact, well-rounded backstop, with the money expected to run in the low six figures.

And the NY State Legislature just got MORE dysfunctional

Well, that was a short-lived party. Democratic control of the state Senate ended today when two dissident Democrats switched sides, returning control to the Republicans, GOP officials said today.

Republicans have since voted to replace Senate Majority leader Malcolm Smith after the surprise political coup

Stay with NBCNewYork.com for more information as this story develops.

Malcolm Smith is an idiot though.

I never said it was realistic.

I just said Omar should call.

then again, you never know what happens. if the Nats can’t find a better offer, Omar might be able to steal him. They would want something I would think.

We can’t hit homeruns anywhere. I think we might have worked TOO hard on the opposite field swing approach in spring training.

    yup

I was worried about HR power coming into the season.
the loss of Delgado has exacerbated an already existing problem.

then again, at least we can’t kill too many rallies.

  56. Comment posted by metswin2009 on June 8, 2009 at 4:50 pm (#1000423)

Oh im sure Omar has inquired about him. Right now there probably just fielding other offers and seeing how high is value is. Im with Ed. I dont think his trade value would be all that high. Hes a FA at the end of the season, hes injury prone and hes having an awful season fielding (probably alot to do with his infielders as well). Omar may be able to steal him.

  57. Comment posted by metswin2009 on June 8, 2009 at 4:51 pm (#1000424)

Yes, but even reasonable people wouldn’t have expected this. Wright, Jose, and Beltran are all hitting a lot less homeruns than their careers would suggest. Church isn’t hitting for any power at all. At the loss of Delgado to that….

Random, but if anyone has an extra ticket for 6/20 (preferably one that costs less than $50), let me know, as I need to buy one. The ticket I thought I had fell through, there’s nothing on Mets.com for less than $90, and StubHub is a last resort because most sellers make you buy both tickets.

The fielding gaffe in the ninth wasn’t what had Guillen stewing. He was more upset about his team’s inability to move runners and get down bunts.

“If this was the 1980s, [none] of these guys would be in the big leagues right now, because if you hit .210-.230 and you can’t execute, I don’t think you should be out here,” Guillen said.

“When you can’t bunt, hit-and-run, squeeze and move the guy over, you better hit 40 home runs and drive in 140.”

He didn’t name names, but the White Sox manager was visibly upset.

Ramon Castro of the ChiSox is currently hitting .230 for the season.

    Just sayin….

That’s still better than Brian Schneider of the Metropolitans, Ramon.
