GeekDay 2009 - Washington DC
Looks like, by necessity of schedule, GeekDay will be June 6th (7:00pm game) in DC. We tried to hit a couple other dates/places but they just didn’t work out. I’m aware that this date is coming up soon so we need to get a head count of who is willing to come along. Respond as soon as possible so we can order the tickets. * UPDATE * I have the tickets now. what is the best/cheapest way to get to dc, and can you get back to NYC after the game?
via amtrak, its a 3 1/5 hour trip costing 72$. acela is $99, and only takes 3 hours to get there.
trains leaving most of the afternoon to get you there b4 7pm. so there is no real issues getting there, even if you want to tailgate.
leaving dc is an issue (prices are the same). it seems there is a 10 pm train, and the next train after is 3am. Im sure dep will be leaving the bars around the this time, but i dont drink. do they have movie theaters open at around midnight in DC?
I’d like to, but won’t know for sure until most likely Sunday or Monday. Not sure how many tickets either.

Nah, that was for either SF or LA which is in two weeks time or San Diego in August. No one could really be firmly nailed down for any of them.
People probably expected me to be like my online persona.
I’m going to all 4 games in San Diego and I have three extras for the Friday game in August. They’re third row behind the Padres dugout.
I’ll try to make a call to the Nats ticket office this weekend or Monday to make sure of availability. I’ll try to gauge the number of tickets we need by what we have here by then. So, if you’re thinking about coming, try to make a post by Sunday night.

Damn, I was all for it and was all set to say yes and then checked our calender and we have Jodis cousin’s wedding that weekend. Damn, that blows. This will be the first Geek trip I will miss :(

FYI to all. I live in the DC area and I am already going to this game but I thought I should point out some things about the Nats stadium. Parking at the stadium is very limited (not to mention expensive) so tailgating near the stadium is close to impossible. However, they offer (or they did last year) a free shuttle from RFK stadium which has a huge parking lot and is free. This is where my group of met fan friends go before Mets Nats games. They start letting people into the lot at 4 so there is plenty of time to eat/drink/play wiffle ball etc. Plus its a Nats game so there is never too many people so there is always plenty of room. Lastly, RFK stadium is very easy to get to…right off a main highway where as the new stadium is not an easy drive. Anyway, if you plan to tailgate, RFK is the way to go, hope to see you all there.

whats a cheap hotel close to the park?
Okay, so tickets are ordered. I need everyone to send me their mailing addresses for tickets plus email info. Danny will be handling the PayPal billing so he’ll be able to tell you what you eventually owe but, essentially, it’s going to be a little under $25 per ticket. We’ve got seats in the LF stands, around the visitor bullpen so we can throw stuff at Sean Green if we feel the urge.

Not sure if you were asking me about hotels but I’ll weigh in anyway. I do not know the area immediately around the stadium very well…it isn’t the best neighborhood. What I would do is look into hotels in College Park. There is a Days Inn (among others) right near the University of Maryland Campus that is within walking distance of the Metro which is only about a 30 minute ride to the stadium. Unlike the NYC subway, the DC metro is really safe/clean/nice and it takes you right there. So to sum up, find a hotel in College Park, call it to see how close it is to the metro, and do it that way.

My husband decided this would be the perfect opportunity to visit some friends of his in DC, who are also baseball fans. We’ll have our own tickets, but I’m hoping that my husband and I can drop by and see youze guys (and gals) for awhile before we meet up with our friends. So I’d appreciate it if you’d let me know where you all are meeting up and hanging out before the game. I really hope to see everyone again.

Awesome I’m coming to the game and crashing at my uncle’s condo for free. Also I checked out the schedule and with regular rest this would be a johan game. Hope it is. I haven’t seen him pitch live yet.
I hate to sound like a nerd, but this is Mets Geeks . . . based on the current rotation with the off day tomorrow I calculate the starter for June 6 is Livan. Johan pitches tonight and the next scheduled start for him will be 6/2. Of course all this is based on no rainouts and Ollie not getting released from Buffalo. If Ollie breaks out all bets are off.
Oh and no one gets HURT!!!!!
The 5th day from tonight is June 1st. But if you read it says with REGULAR REST. Which is 4 days rest pitch on the 5th day. Of course with the off day things could change.
On espn it has pelf friday maine saturday livan sunday and santana monday. so tell espn they are wrong too.

luc, chances are we’ll tailgate in the RFK parking lot before the game. We’ll put up more definite plans on this thread as we get closer to gameday.
because of the off day im sure santana will be given an extra day’s rest, but 5th day and 5th day would give us johan next saturday. because it is so early in the season though im sure he’ll get the extra day. Just back to my original post, with REGULAR REST it should have been his start.
Understood, Lunk. Our friends told us that the RFK parking lot was the best place to park — it’s where they park when they go to games — so we’d be going there anyway. We’re hoping to meet up with you all around 4 and then go meet our friends around 5 or so when they arrive. Assuming that all works out.

Dep - I have your number - remember when you sent that wonderful message about the Santana signing? I recently was forced to get a new phone and I lost the message forever, but you were in my contacts when the nice people at Verizon transfered the info to the new phone.
Sometimes I would read the Santana message and remember back to how happy I was on that day at that moment . . . really pulled me through some hard times . . .

VMF, I’ll probably be at the RFK lot around 1pm or so…figure that will be a good time to kick off the tailgating, I’d imagine not so many pplz are drunkards like me and dont need to be there quite as early. I would think 2-3PM is probly when many will arrive
