A Yale student is suing US Airways for $1 million in compensation for his lost Xbox 360 and the emotional toll of attempting to recover it. He claims he had an Xbox 360 with a “specialized hard drive” and other fancy components worth more than $1,000 (is that the kind with the really, really loud drive noise?) in his checked luggage, and when he went to pick up his luggage it was considerably lighter than before, with the Xbox 360 and components found as the only thing missing. Sounds like no-fun-at-all, and the “run-around” he got with speaking to five different airline employees sounds equally painful, but we’re not sure how that all adds up to $1,000,000 — the maximum allowable by law in his state. US Airways says that not only does the federal limit of liability for lost luggage top out at $3,300, but that electronics checked in luggage are specifically excluded from liability. How kind.

Since their break-up a few weeks ago, Hayden Panettiere has launched a tiny crusade to get Milo Ventimiglia kicked off of Heroes despite the fact that’d be the equivalent of getting rid of the redneck strippers on Rock of Love. (Read: Retarded.) OK! Magazine reports:

“She refuses to be on the set at the same time as him,” the pal tells OK!. “She is making it difficult for everyone involved.” (Her rep denies this).
As for Milo, “He’s not going to play any games or stoop to her level,” says the friend.

Fortunately for NBC, I have a solution to this problem: Think of Heroes as a girlfriend who wants you to stop drinking and playing Xbox in your underwear. Or to a less dire extent, a horse that broke its leg in a race.

Josh Willingham is not currently slated for an everyday role with the Nationals.
Willingham can play outfield, first base or catcher, but if the season started today, the Nationals would start Adam Dunn in left field, Lastings Milledge in center, Elijah Dukes in right, Nick Johnson at first and Jesus Flores at catcher. He won’t have an everyday role unless there’s an injury or trade, but Willingham should still have value in NL-only leagues.

Matt Cerrone is a fucking schill

In a report for the Observer, John Koblin writes of his experience not seeing Shea Stadium, while stopping at Willets Point on the 7 train.

    Speaking of Citi Field…

    C Sponn sent in an e-mail to MetsBlog.com saying…

“What do you think about these ticket prices? I could get box seats to a Phillies game for $60; Astros box seats for $50; etc… Is this some kind of joke?”

Look, the cost of entertainment is going up, everywhere. I mean, it costs nearly $50 to go to the movies for two hours. This year, I nearly paid $200 for a ticket to see the Allman Brothers Band at the Beacon Theater, but didn’t. I pay roughly $90 for cable every month, compared to $60 a few years ago. It’s just the way it is.

The thing is, like in the cases above, if you don’t like it, don’t pay it – watch the game on TV instead. If you have the money, and you want to see a baseball game at Citi Field, go. I’m not sure what else to say.

Remember, if these prices are truly absurd, then it will be reflected in the team’s bottom line – if it’s not, they sell out, then I’d say they read the market just fine… time will tell.

I will not lie, though, the thought of spending $150 for me and my Dad to see the Mets play the Braves, with food, drink and parking, sitting up in the promenade by right field, in this economy, does seem steep. However, I love going to the game with my dad, and so we’ll probably end up paying it – and we can always sit in the Pepsi Porch, bring our own food, and spend around $80 instead.

My fear is that the real cost may come at the expense of future fans, young fans, who will end up not going to games in the same impromptu, inexpensive, free-for-all way that my generation did, and which helped endear the game to me. Instead, it may end up being easier and less expensive for these kids and parents to just stay home and play Wii Tennis, missing baseball entirely, and putting a dent in to the game’s future customer base. Again, though, time will tell.

By the way, the Mets have added Citi Field’s Seating and Pricing Information to their website, which you can check out here.

There are 28 different type of ticket you can buy, ranging from the Caesar’s Club to the Metropolitan Box, for five different level of games, ranging from Platinum to Value.

In other words, there are 140 different types of tickets to buy, for 140 different people who have 140 different spending habits.

The most-expensive ticket is the $228 Ebbets Club seat for Platinum games, while the least-expensive ticket is the $11 Promenade Reserve seat for all Value games.

Ramon, I’m sure his bosses won’t like him saying

True Chris. But how else is he supposed to justify such a hike in ticket prices when the team is trying to cut payroll this year?

BTW, it isnt 50 dollars to go to the movies unless your buying concessions galore, even in NYC. Do these seats include concessions MC? I mean really? Can’t compare apple and oranges.

  56. Comment posted by Ramon on March 11, 2009 at 10:07 pm (#937567)

I agree about the movies. I dunno where he goes to see films but I lived in NYC for 3 years (2002-2005) and I never paid half that much for two tickets.

The new United Football League, set to kick off later this year, will have a team that will play at least some - but not all - of its games in New York. The four-team league, which also includes franchises in Las Vegas, Orlando and San Francisco, will have several games aired on the Versus network. The season will conclude with its championship game on Thanksgiving Weekend.

The New York franchise will have most of its home games at CitiField, but will also play games in Hartford to attract a more regional audience. It is expected the league will announce tomorrow that Ted Cottrell, the former Jets defensive coordinator, will be the head coach of the New York franchise. Former Giants coach Jim Fassel will coach the Las Vegas team. It is also expected that former NFL head coaches Dennis Green and Jim Haslett will coach the other two teams.

The UFL was founded by San Francisco investment banker Bill Hambrecht. The league’s president is former NFL executive and agent Michael Huyghue.
