Fantasy Baseball Interest Thread

Promoted from the Journals. –Alex

Post here if you want to participate in this year’s Geek League! Also post what categories you maybe want and stuff like that. As soon as I get a critical mass and some consensus on what we want as far as scoring and the like I can set it up.

FWIW: I’m FOR keeping innings and game limits.

I’ll play again Doc. winning would be more fun. Extra catigory for if one of your players gets named in any scandals?

We should have a category for BS public apologies given. I’m also for keeping the games and innings limits, although I’m for raising the cap on innings for 1500 perhaps.

I am interested, I tried to sign up last year but missed the window.

I am for inning limits as well so long as they make sense for the # of pitching slots setup for the team.

We doing a head to head or rotisserie (or one of each)

    Interested.

BTW, if we’re keeping inning limits, it doesn’t make sense to have IP as a category (the way it was last year).

  13. Comment posted by DoctorK16 on February 16, 2009 at 4:04 pm (#930427)

I agree Jessica last year was a bit flawed because you had the limit and then IP as a category. With that said I don’t know you should be able to win the pitching categories running crappy pitchers out there. Perhaps a 1500 IP ceiling that everyone won’t hit my help.

Dep ran it last year, is he running it this yr? I’m in too.

I wonder if we’ll need 2 leagues considering how many people we usually have playing plus anyone new

I’m used to playing in fairly simple fantasy games but… I’d love to join in if you’ve got room.

    skyhappysal,

On offense, we’ve used runs, rbi, total bases, OPS, and steals (last year we changed it to net steals). On pitching, ERA and WHIP we’ve used both years; in ‘07 we had K/9 and total bases allowed, last year we had strikeouts and K/BB.

One proposal I’d like to suggest for this year (I can see legit arguments for both sides, but I’d be interested in what the Geek consensus is):

For the OF slots, should they all be kept as generic OF or should we have specific LF/CF/RF slots plus a generic OF or two?

Also keen to join if there’s room.

Generic corner OF positions, but a CF spot would be nice. Give a bonus to the guys who get Beltran/Sizemore.

I think Yahoo has a way to make it so you can separate it into CF and COF instead of LF and RF, but I’m not sure what the league used last year. I wouldn’t want to use LF and RF separately, that seems asinine, but a CF is fine.

RE: Stat categories. No saves? Guess there isn’t a reason to draft relievers until the 15th round or so.

Relievers are only good if they have high K/BB ratios. It prevented a guy like Todd Jones from ever having value just because he got a bunch of saves while pitching horribly.

I liked the K/BB but hated that wild pitchers with high strikeout rates were still valued. I would much rather see the Total bases allowed cat comeback

I’m down to be in again.

Doc can be commissioner this year, no big deal. i dont wanna ;)

Looks like we’re gonna need 2 leagues this yr, lots of interest. Maybe we can figure out how to do a playoff or something at the end of the season between the top 2 teams in each league or something.

I think 3 OFs is better than LF/RF/CF…but however the grp wants to roll….

    Suggestion:

Let’s create an autodraft “dummy” team, and have one of the Head Geeks manage it passively–that is, only replacing injured/benched/imprisoned players. Everyone who is ranked below the dummy at the ASB must attend the next home game, and cheer loudly for Luis Castillo. (Yes, he’ll still be here.) Everyone who finishes below the dummy at the end of the season must fight for their spot in next year’s Geek League–steel cage match? If the dummy wins, we all agree to give up and join beerleaguer for 2010.

I’d love to be in the league this year. I was in the inaugural MetsGeek league like three years ago back before I got too busy with school. I wanted to make my triumphant return last year too but the league was already full. Any space for an old timer in one of these new leagues?!

  63. Comment posted by John on February 19, 2009 at 8:33 am (#931174)

I dont know if it would be funny or sad if the dummy happens to win lol.
