Forcing two full touchdowns to win with the field goal makes a good deal of sense. A flukey kick return can put you immediately into FG range, after all.

  36. Comment posted by Ramon on January 11, 2009 at 4:09 pm (#917939)

They can blame this defeat on Burress’ stupidity all the want in the Fox broadcast booth. The simple fact of the matter is that Eli didn’t get the job done when guys were open and plays needed to be made. I hope he will someday prove to me that he is more than a mediocre QB who can get hot on a streak, but I still don’t see it.

If he can’t change the gameplan, then he’s worthless. Him being the OC for a Super Bowl winning team was just about the biggest fluke there was. He is a terrible OC.

McNabb is a good quarterback who has been unfairly been expected to be a great quarterback and that’s always gonna hang around his neck. That’s the basic story there.

Whereas Manning’s a guy who’ll basically always play up or down to the talent that surrounds him… which CAN be a good thing and can also be a bad thing.

I cannot wait to hear the media discourse when they all start piling up on Burress for the Giants offseason defeat. He, and not Gilbride or Coughlin, or especially Manning will take the hit for this. Instead of pointing the finger at Eli, people will say that Burress cost the team their season. If Eli needs Burress as bad as people say he does, then that says more about Eli than it says about Burress’s stupidity for what he did.

At this point, you almost kinda want to root for a
Chargers-Cardinals Super Bowl, just so you got yourself a championship where the combined regular season record is 17-15.

That’d be kinda rad except for the fact that it would put Kurt Warner in the game and people who can’t shut up about their religious beliefs for two contiguous seconds in front of a microphone.

Yes, Kurt, I’m sure that with a global depression and the middle east burning down, Jesus was COMPLETELY focused on helping you dump off to the tight end for a first down. Kurt Warner, you colossal douche.

I thought the play calling was like How to Kill a Would-Be Drive 101.

The cutesy passing game in the 1st half in run situations was retarded and stymied just about every building drive. The bootleg that Eli threw for the INT too. And then the non-stop running in the 2nd half when they needed to throw. It’s like they thought they had to trick the Eagles defense instead of just running up the middle and all over it. Which, by the way, is my way of asking why the fuck were they using all the running plays around the edges - the sweeps and shit. Run it up the fucking gut w/Jacobs (who was benched an awful lot in the 1st half…).

Defense was very admirable, but shit. Gilbride and Eli were retarts.

They pushed it pretty close in the stupid way they lost though. Gilbride acted like he had someone with Favre in his prime behind center, Eli just doesn’t have the arm strength to get it done.

This sounds crazy, but I say if the Giants lost to Carolina they would have won at home against the Cardinals. Of course that would have meant probably losing to the Eagles in the championship game.

MIAMI (SP) — Shortly after leading the Florida Gators to a national
championship with a 24-14 win over Oklahoma, junior quarterback Tim
Tebow announced that he would skip his senior season and ascend
    directly into heaven.

Tebow entered the press room to wild applause. A reporter for a 24-
hour cable sports network burst into tears when the 2007 Heisman
winner entered the room. Another threw a pair of boxer shorts on the
podium. Tebow smiled at the gesture and several sports reporters
    fainted.

“Sorry I’m late,” Tebow began. “There was a six-year-old boy with
cancer in row 54 and I had to make my way through the crowd to heal
    him.”

“I want to start by saying that playing quarterback for the University
of Florida, winning two national championships, has been a great
honor. There has been some speculation about my future and I want to
clear that up right now,” he continued.

“Don’t go, Tim!” a reporter shouted from the back of the room.

“After much consideration, I have decided to skip my senior season at
the University of Florida and ascend directly into Heaven,” Tebow
announced. Upon making the announcement, Tebow was bathed in a
    blinding white light and vanished.

In response to the news, ESPN announced they will have a month-long
tribute to Tebow. ESPN2 will now be known as ESPN-TEBOW and will
feature Tebow highlights (including home videos of Tebow’s childhood),
re-airings of past interviews, Tebow-centric analysis by ESPN air
personalities, a Tebow quiz show and a reality show to find the “most
    Tebow-like” person in America.

“He wasn’t just the greatest player in college football history,” said
a college football writer at the press conference, tears streaming
down his face. “He might have been the greatest person to ever walk on
    earth.”

Well, the biggest thing the Giants need to do is resign Jacobs and resolve the Plax situation. Either keep him or release him and find a top flight guy

Totally agreed Chris. Jacobs comes before Ward imo. Bradshaw I believe potentially anyway can be just as good. I think Ward benefited from Jacobs softening the defense for his long runs. Maybe he proves me wrong but I think it was alot of Jacobs involved in those yds. As far as Plax hes let me down no doubt but he didnt put out a hit on anyone or gun down anyone or shoot doggies. He did a stupid thing. People always do dumb things. Lets hope he learns from it moves on. Maybe he grows up from it. Im willing to give him a second chance if he grows up and learns from it

    Everyone see/hear this?

Mets offer 3-yr Deal to Perez
    By Matthew Cerrone - Jan 12, 2009 8:02 pm

During tonight’s Hot Stove show on the MLB Network, SI.com’s Jon Heyman said the Mets offered free-agent LHP Oliver Perez a three-year deal, ‘worth close to $30 million.’

Heyman says the Mets are discouraged by negotiations with Lowe, who is also being pursued by the Braves, ‘any maybe the Phillies, and maybe the Brewers.’

According to Heyman, Omar Minaya prefers Perez, but the rest of the front office prefers Lowe.

Earlier in the off-season, Heyman told WFAN that Perez had been seeking a five-year, $80 million deal.

This is refreshing too hear, with the only drawback being Scott Boras is the agent for both Ollie and Lowe. We seem to just be sitting around while Boras and Lowe try to get ANYONE else involved in the bidding for Lowe. Maybe us getting involved with Ollie will put some pressure back on Lowe.
