Mike Cameron-Yankees Rumors
By Tim Dierkes [December 15 at 6:18pm CST]
6:18pm: MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy heard from a source that talks between the Brewers and Yankees are at a “stalemate,” and did not resume today.
Peter Abraham writes that Igawa may no longer be a part of the deal.
Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News wrote earlier today that the two teams have agreed on which players to trade. He heard from a source that the Yankees would likely send Igawa, Melky Cabrera and cash to the Brewers for Cameron.
A second source told Feinsand that the Brewers could send Bill Hall along too, an idea Tom Haudricourt suggested last week.

Vizquel Wants To Play Again
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [December 15 at 7:03pm CST]
Omar Vizquel wants to play another year in the majors and maybe more according to MLB.com.
He said his agent “has been talking to a couple of teams,” but didn’t reveal which ones.
Vizquel realizes he’s not going to get long-term offers at his age, but he’s interested in one-year deals, especially from National League teams.
The 41-year-old said he feels “really good” and can play better than he did last season for the Giants.

8:48pm: Tyler Kepner of the New York Times spoke to people involved with the deal and he gets the feeling that “the Yankees are backing away” for baseball reasons, not financial ones. Kepner adds that the Yankees know they don’t have to make this trade immediately if they don’t want to.

Wonder why the Braves would offer a reported 5yr $80mil to A.J. but have no reported interest in Lowe?
It’s starting to look like Lowe might fall into our laps the way K-Rod, did. :)

Odds And Ends: Astros, Saito, Yankees
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [December 15 at 8:14pm CST]
Links for Monday night…
* Astros GM Ed Wade is “kicking the tires” on players to share time with Geoff Blum at third next year. It seems unlikely that they can afford Ty Wigginton.
* The Marlins haven’t yet inquired on Takashi Saito, a recent non-tender.
* It’s “very unlikely” though “not impossible” that Mark Teixeira or Manny Ramirez becomes a Yankee according to Tyler Kepner. He also thinks that the longer Andy Pettitte waits, the lower the chances are of a return to the Yankees.
* Adam Everett thinks the Tigers are a great fit for him. Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski said Everett’s in line to get most of the starts at shortstop.
* Felipe Lopez could be a positive for the D’Backs in spite of his questionable effort and unspectacular defense, writes Keith Law.
* Rob Neyer thinks that the Yankees “pretty obviously overpaid” for A.J. Burnett.
* Here’s a video clip of Bronx Banter authors and Anthony McCarron debating the pros and cons of the Burnett signing.
* Sarah D. Morris weighs in on the Dodgers’ offseason moves.
* Tony Massarotti ranks the five worst current pitching contracts.

Tony’s Top 5 worst pitching contracts in baseball
Email|Link|Comments (0) Posted by Tony Massarotti, Globe Staff December 15, 2008 05:19 PM
Tony’s Top 5
Worst pitching contracts in baseball
5
A.J. Burnett, five years, $82.5 million. First of all, he has an obvious injury history. Second, he was 69-66 entering this year, which just happened to be a contract season. By the time this one is up, we’re willing to bet the Yankees will have their Matt Clement.
4
Kei Igawa, five years, $46 million*. Technically, this is just a five-year, $20 million contract. In reality, with a $26 million posting fee, the Yankees paid $46 million for a man who has been a complete bust. The Yankees should have just taken the cash and burned it.
3
Carlos Silva, four years, $48 million. We knew this was a bad deal at the time, but somehow, the contract actually has worsened over time. Silva still has three years left after going 4-15 with a 6.46 ERA. Without the contract, he’d have been released.
2
Jason Schmidt, three years, $47 million. With one year remaining on this contract, Schmidt is 1-4 with a 6.31 ERA in 25 2/3 innings during his career with the Dodgers. Deals like this one are why people get fired. Like the Yankees, the Dodgers should have toasted the money.
1
Barry Zito, seven years, $126 million. The king of all bad contracts. Through the first two years of this deal, Zito has the 10th highest ERA in baseball among all qualifying pitchers. Good thing that Tim Lincecum is making relatively short money, eh?

Nathan’s story line is beyond outrageous. It’s so far out there that I can’t even justify it by saying, well it’s only a TV show. The shit is stupid. The guy has an epiphany and does a complete 180 in a matter of seconds. Now he has become his father and could care less if his brother dies.
Oh and so much more, but there’s no point in going any further. It’s awful. And the more the writers try to fix it, the more it fails miserably.

Peavy Trade Unlikely This Winter
By Tim Dierkes [December 15 at 9:30pm CST]
Tom Krasovic of the San Diego Union-Tribune has a quote from Padres CEO Sandy Alderson regarding Jake Peavy:
“It’s likely Jake will be with us Opening Day. We said from the very beginning in connection with both of those possibilities that we would not make a trade unless it made baseball sense. We are no longer actively pursuing any trade for Jake, which is not to say someone won’t approach us.”
