When asked about Heilman he said he did not talk to Heilman or attempt to help Heilman.
Didn’t Aaron have issues before Dan Warthen became pitching coach? Maybe he should’ve kept saying nothing to Aaron. LOL. Actually, I look at the numbers and see that he some of his better months after Warthen came along…..

Blaming Warthen for Aaron’s shittiness is like blaming Obama for the fucked up state of the economy right now.

So do I john. So do I. But I also blame Warthen for a second half collapse by almost every member of the bullpen. You don’t think its weird that they all fell apart post-Jacket?
You think it’s just a coincidence that a pitching coach that is a failure every where he has went…comes in…and the relievers the pitchers who pitch irregularly and require a lot more work from a pitching coach to notice problems with their mechanics and what not…are the ones who crumble…
You don’t think it has ANYTHING to do with Warthen?
Come on. Pull the other leg, it’s got bells on it. (Warthen is so old he invented that phrase. In Ancient Greek)

Evening, guys! I’m catching up on today’s thread and I have to say that JJ Putz sounds like he’s going to be a nice personality on the team. No way of knowing if he’s a “clubhouse guy” but he certainly gives a nice interview. I like what I’ve read so far. This has probably been said a lot today, but - as I said - I’m still reading.
Plus there’s the little matter of his peripherals! :-)

Yes, that’s the perfect analogy. Because Obama was President during this whole debacle just like Warthen was…oh wait. The difference is a failure happened on Warthen’s watch and not Obama’s.
Wait, so your entire analogy makes no sense.

wait when did warthen come in?
Was he around for the 2nd half of 07 or was that still peterson?
They collapsed both 2nd halves. Some of that was being overworked. Some of that was they just plain suck.

I think Putz might end up pitching better than K-rod lol.

It’s just hard to quantify what kind of an effect the pitching coach has. I mean if we didnt make the pitching coach change…..would the 2nd half collapses still happen? I think so.

How is it Warthen’s fault the pen sucked?
Was it his fault Wagner was injured?
Aaron sucked worse BEFORE Warthen came along on June 15th.
Who else is there to put on him? Sanchez for being junkballer who the league figured out after a while?

Um…Warthen wasn’t pitching coach during the whole debacle…especially with concerns to Aaron…
Aaron’s monthly ERA in May-April before Warthen came along in mid-June were 5.87 and 8.25 during Peterson’s run. Those were 2 of his 3 worse months in 2008. If you are going to criticize an analogy you should get the facts straight.
PS I liked it better when when you had me on ignore. You made more sense then.

Relievers need constant monitoring, and constant tinkering. They’re not on a set game schedule and they don’t throw enough pitches like starters do to have even the most stupid pitching coaches realize what’s wrong. They need to constantly be monitored. It’s obvious that Warthen didn’t do that and IIRC there were some rumblings after Warthen came in that he wasn’t doing enough with the bullpen and the bullpen arms were wondering what the fuck was going on with him. Then add to the mix that Conti was just there for Pedro and we didn’t have a real bullpen coach and it was a cluster fuck.
I’m not saying Warthen is completely to blame for the bullpen, but it’s obvious that for whatever reason you can all bash Heilman but want to defend Warthen. No dice. It doesn’t work for me. Then you look at his past track record. Sorry, you want someone who has never succeeded in the major leagues as a pitching coach, after a dismal half season…to continue to mentor our pitchers?
Y’all are crazy.
