My strategy tonight was simple — order in some pizza and matzoh ball soup around seven, try to watch a Godard movie and then fall asleep until around 11 CST. Might have to try it tomorrow now.

From Lennon. Who is he referring to parenthetically?
I go back and forth on Castillo. I was actually a big proponent of re-signing him after that first half-season with the club in 2007 because I liked the fact that he played hard and actually seemed to care if the team won or lost (something that I couldn’t say about everyone that year)

Sounds like a plan!
But I wouldn’t necessarily lead-off with the pizza.

Odd. Those qualities of Castillo in his first go round with the Mets seemed to be the exact opposite and, in fact, a subject of much derision in his second act.

LMFAO! Wow, 71. That’s some crazy ’80s Jersey hair she’s sportin there. Funny thing is that so many of these adult stars are really pretty, but they have absolutely no taste. Way too much make-up, too much hair spray, too much tanning, and too much partying which leads to them looking like they’re in their 50’s by the time they are in their 30’s.
BTW, that’s Taylor Wayne. She was one hot piece when she was younger.

Mets Likely To Offer Deals To Closers
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [December 6 at 12:09pm CST]
12:09 pm: Buster Olney writes that the Mets will offer deals to multiple closers during the Winter Meetings and will give the closer’s job to the first free agent to accept his offer.
Olney guesses that the Mets will offer $36MM over three years to Francisco Rodriguez, $30MM over three years to Brian Fuentes and $16-18MM over two years to Kerry Wood.
Even though the Brewers could pursue K-Rod, the Mets find themselves in a powerful position since there are many closers available and they’re willing to spend.
10:16 am: Andrew Marchand of ESPN radio 1050 in New York has a source who says the Mets will “probably” offer a deal to a closer at the Winter Meetings. Finding a closer remains a priority for the Mets, who may prefer Francisco Rodriguez over other options.
Marchand’s source said that Bobby Abreu, who wasn’t offered arbitration, and Raul Ibanez, who was, could be targets for the Mets once they make progress in the bullpen.
Manny Ramirez is apparently not on the Mets’ radar.
Odds And Ends: Lowe, K-Rod
By Coley Ward [December 6 at 1:59pm CST]
Some more links for Saturday…
* Derek Lowe says his priority is winning. Fortunately, all the teams rumored to be in on Lowe (Philadelphia, Boston, the Dodgers and both New York teams) should compete in 2009. So he can stop worrying about that and turn his attention to making gobs and gobs of money.
* Lyle Spencer, who writes for MLB.com’s Hot Stove Blog, says what the Mets reportedly offered Francisco Rodriguez (three years and $36MM) isn’t much better than what the Angels were prepared to pay (three years and $34MM). So maybe K-Rod will stay in Anaheim after all?

PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic — Alex Rodriguez is switching sides.
The New York Yankees star will play for the Dominican Republic in the 2009 World Baseball Classic, he said Saturday.

With David Ortiz by his side, Alex Rodriguez reveals he will play for the Dominican Republic this time.
Rodriguez made the announcement while playing at a charity golf tournament hosted by friend David Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox.
“I am 100 percent sure that I will play for the Dominican Republic team,” he said. “This time, there will be no doubts and it is a dream of my mom’s that I intend to fulfill.”
Rodriguez played for the United States in the 2006 inaugural Classic and was largely criticized by fans in the Dominican Republic and across Latin America. He at first had announced he would play for the Dominican Republic, then said he would not play and ultimately joined the U.S. team.
Rodriguez’s parents are from the Dominican Republic, and although he was born in the U.S., he is allowed to choose for which country he will play.
“It will be a very special day for me and my family to see me play again with a Dominican uniform,” he said.
The Dominicans placed third behind Japan and Cuba in 2006.
“I think we have a good team and the possibility of winning because we have lots of quality material for the Classic,” he said.
Rodriguez played with the Leones del Escogido during the Dominican Republic’s 1994-95 winter season before reaching the major leagues.
Seriously can this guy ever make a decision and stick with it.
I’m still in favor of offering Petey something. If it’s wasted money, I’m okay with that; he’s still a first-ballot HOF pitcher, in my estimation, and worth a flyer, no matter the risks. Seriously, do we not have enough 40-man slots?

While he’s looking for a starting job, free agent Kevin Millar is open to returning to Baltimore as a part-time player.
“Right now, I’m at a point in my career where I understand that nobody is coming to me and saying, ‘Hey, you’re going to get 600 at-bats and be my No. 4 hitter,” Millar said. “I love to play every day, but I would never not come back to the Orioles because I wasn’t a starter. It would never be a factor where I said that I’m too good for a bench role.” If the Orioles bring him back, it’d probably be for about half of the $2.75 million he made last season.
I’d take Millar over Marlon in a heartbeat.
