If I were in Minaya’s Prada shoes, I would be of the mind that there is no one on the team that is untouchable. I realize that Omar says this to the media, but in reality, away from the spotlight, I can imagine that Wright and Reyes are staying with the team regardless.
With that said, I’m wondering, if it were 100% true that everyone is available all the time, what would have to be offered in order for, say, Wright to be traded? Would a deal of Gordon/Greinke/prospect get it done? Is that too much? Too little? What about Reyes? Beltran?
I don’t have any speculation. I just thought it would be an interesting exercise.
I don’t know the answer but you’d think a young superstar not even in his prime will have to get alot in return.
That being said, Wright, Reyes and Beltran are going nowhere and they shouldnt be. They are the core of this team and are a huge reason why the mets almost made the players……..its the supporting cast that I have huge questions about (2nd base, bullpen etc etc)
Rule #1 for trades:
Get the best player in the deal.
Rule #2:
Danny is never wrong about trade rules.
Take a look at what the Marlins received for Miggy Cabrera and add a a little more considering D-Train’s including in the deal was a bit of a salary dump for the Marlins. Maybin was a top 5 overall prospect and Andrew Miller was the top talent in his draft class. The other guys are ho-hum, but the tigers would likely have had to give up one more very good to excellent prospect had they not agreed to take D-Train on.
I don’t know that theres a deal the Mets could logically entertain for Reyes/Wright/Beltran. It’s not like they need to cut payroll, and like Danny said, they care about getting the best player in the deal.
And most of the players the Mets would consider better than Reyes or Wright are on teams that can’t take the contracts of Reyes and Wright. Like say, Hanley Ramirez. What’s the list of players that could realistically be considered fair value for Wright or Reyes? Grady Sizemore, maybe? Pujols? Utley? Longoria? I mean, it’s not a very long list considering positional value and age, and most of them are completely lateral moves.
When you’d have to think of trading a guy if Pujols were offered, you know that he’s untradeable.
