I think that’s a pretty huge blow to the Brewers, who will have some primo draft picks to play with in June.

NEW YORK–The federal government has issued new rules that would let the New Jersey Nets, New York Yankees and New York Mets float tax-exempt bonds to pay for their new sports facilities.

The Internal Revenue Service tightened its regulations so future developers would have a hard time using the bonds for sports facilities. But the IRS says the regulations won’t apply to projects already approved and under way.

New York state and city officials have approved plans for a Nets arena in Brooklyn, and the Yankees and Mets are building new stadiums.

The Nets owner has said he hopes to obtain up to $800 million in tax-exempt bonds for the new arena. The Yankees and Mets have used more than $1 billion in tax-exempt bonds to pay for the two stadiums they’re building.

St. Petersburg, Fla. - Former New York Mets manager Willie Randolph was scheduled to interview Tuesday for the Milwaukee Brewers’ managerial opening.

The Brewers are not revealing the candidates they are considering but a source familiar with the situation said Randolph had an interview scheduled.

Edna Jester, 89, faces a petty theft charge because she refused to return a football that ended up in her yard while children were playing in her Ohio neighborhood, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

The paper says she wouldn’t cooperate with the police officers, even after they warned her that she was facing possible criminal charges.

“I said go ahead and arrest me. Handcuff me if you’d like, because I said I’m not guilty of anything,” Jester tells WCPO-TV.

The officers cuffed her and took her to the station in Blue Ash, Ohio. She’s due in court next month.

The whole thing is silly. She could get up to 6 months in jail if found guilty. Good to know they’re getting those hardened crominals off the street….lol!

Sweet jeebus, the gov’t be dumb

WASHINGTON - Say you misplaced $185,481 somewhere? Just expense it — Iraq style!

A U.S. contractor hired to teach Iraqis about good government misplaced that amount in cash, then claimed the loss as “an expense.”

The U.S. government not only covered the loss, but paid the contractor tens of thousands of dollars more in special fees for overhead and other costs relating to the missing money, according to a report by the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction, known as SIGIR.

Phillies may get a big break in this series. Heavy rain is forecast for Philly this weekend. postponing a game would give them the ability to use Hamels 3 times instead of having to depend on Moyer or Blanton. I hope the sun shines brightly.
    Go Rays!

Would it be wrong to hope for a Kazmir pitch to break Muttley’s hand in the top of the first? Or does he only lean over the plate against slop tossers?

Not to pile on today arguments but Iraq in itself makes it difficult for me to listen to any Republican fiscal conservative argument and not laugh. Sorry you can pour billions down that rabbit hole and have corruption scandal after scandal and complain about big government. We would have been off setting the money on fire in a huge bonfire on the capital lawn.
