I have to re-read 2/3rds of Madame Bovary tomorrow after a German exam so I don’t really have time to read that huge spiel on Linda Cohn tonight good god. It’s epic in length, Jess.

I’m not fond of Madame Bovary. Although, I should probably re-read now that I am older.

I mean now that I am old. :-(

I saw her on Daily News Live the other day. She’s on some Atkins shit. Good for her. A Mets fan who grew up without friends and, instead, sports. A nice, happy woman.

    But fuck the monolithic ESPN.

I suppose. French was always a struggle for me, though. My language skills weren’t really up to it. It kind of tainted my experience of most the great writers. Although I loved Zola at the time. As I said, I should re-read it. But I’ll have to look for a great translation.

I’m trying to figure out how to phrase this correctly…

I respect the hell out of Linda Cohn because she broke into the boys club of sports DESPITE… hm… being a very facially ugly woman.

I mean, it is one thing when a tight-sweater weathergirl jumps into the sports gig on the power of her looks and doesn’t know a thing about sports, it’s just a job.

But Linda Cohn had to work probably ten times as hard as any man or woman, to rise that far in sports broadcasting while looking like… hm… she had a series of unfortunate skateboarding accidents in her youth.

    Seriously. Like, right on.

I have to tone down my language so as to not make this all sound sarcastic but… seriously.

That probably took a GODDAMN load of work.

  17. Comment posted by Lister on September 11, 2008 at 10:04 pm (#841708)

You’re a fucking, um, how do I phrase this, GODDAMN funny macho dude, brah.

Boomer & Stuart Scott must have had to their asses off since um gee whiz hmm they’re borderline retarded.

  19. Comment posted by littlefallsmets on September 11, 2008 at 10:07 pm (#841711)

    I’m full on serious, though.

It’s hard enough for an ugly MAN to pull off a broadcasting career… I had so many broadcast journalism friends who had to deal with that truth after college.

But to be a… really unattractive woman in the highest echelon of sports broadcasting, a full-on sexist field from the top down, man.

    Right on.

  24. Comment posted by Lister on September 11, 2008 at 10:10 pm (#841714)

The thing is, LFM, that she doesn’t seem particularly bright or incisive about any given sport or even sporting life in general. Which doesn’t separate her much from her male counterparts.

Sports broadcasting is just sort of a vacuum of merit, no?

All the smart sports commentators I can think of use print as a medium.

  25. Comment posted by Danny on September 11, 2008 at 10:11 pm (#841715)

Years of bad travel in cheap hotels, insane post-production rush jobs, ridiculous schmoozing for jobs and interviews, that sorta thing.

That’s hell, from what I’ve heard, and mozeltov for being through all of it.

Judging from recent comments this is is a distinct possibility. Also gas should be cheaper in September, no one is on vacation driving places using lots of it keeping the demand naturally down. I would have be really worried if it didn’t drop some this month.

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin left open the option Thursday of waging war with Russia if it were to invade neighboring Georgia and the former Soviet republic were a NATO ally. “We will not repeat a Cold War,” Palin said in her first television interview since becoming Republican John McCain’s vice presidential running mate two weeks ago.

Palin told Charles Gibson of ABC News that she’d favor including Georgia and Ukraine, both former Soviet republics, in NATO despite opposition by Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. Asked whether the United States would have to go to war with Russia if it invaded Georgia, and the country was part of NATO, Palin said: “Perhaps so.”

i don’t see how this relationship can go on much longer.. it is change of scenery time,

really, as an ex-navy guy you really get a feel when a change of duty station is in order

Its a shame hes struggling but I know hes better than this. Thats whats so frustrating. Maybe a change of scenery turns him around. He’ll probably come back to kill us though, lol

Hey, its not like hes out there sucking on purpose. Something is wrong. Whether its injury or tipping his pitches, something is just not right. I will always wish the best for him and I hope he has a long ML career,
