So, he expects us to play the Nats at .500 ball. And to go 7-5 at home. That’s pretty optimistic of him.

Albert Pujols told a St. Louis television station that he’s considering offseason surgery to repair a damaged ligament in his right elbow, a procedure that could cost him the start of next season.

Pujols, who was hosting his annual charity golf tournament on Monday, told KSDK-TV that he’s thinking about surgery to correct the ligament damage, which was diagnosed last winter. Pujols chose to play this season instead of having surgery and is leading the National League with a .359 batting average entering Tuesday’s games. He has 166 hits with 38 doubles, 32 home runs and 95 RBIs.

But the St. Louis Cardinals and Pujols have both said that surgery on the elbow will eventually be necessary. He’s been playing with the injury since 2003.

“I’m thinking about it; I’m thinking really hard,” he said. “There’s just a lot of things next year going on, the All-Star Game [in St. Louis], the [World Baseball] Classic, you know. But I think in the long run, the sooner that I get it done, the better it’s going to be for me, because I’m going to heal quicker than if I wait two or three more years. But it needs to be done.”

Fernando Tatis is starting over Nick Evans in left field against lefthander John Lannan because Manuel views him as a better defensive player. Manuel indicated Tatis would probably start in left field Wednesday as well against Odalis Perez.

Did someone blindfold jerry this weekend? Also, i thought some rookie was starting tomorrow?

Wagner remained composed during his entire press conference until the last question, when he broke down crying when asked about what his children thought about the surgery.

Before I go back to work, this is from Faith and Fear in Flushing.

I thought it was a nice tribute. Just a couple of paragraphs, the complete article is on the site.

The Story of Billy the Kid

But before we plunge back into the terrors and joys of a pennant race, a moment for Billy Wagner. He’s never gotten his due in New York, which is partly the nature of the town and partly life as a closer. It’s by no means uncommon for pitchers to spin out of control for 10 to 15 hideous innings before regaining their equilibrium, but such a stretch is very different for starters and relievers. If you’re in the rotation, that’s two or three bad outings; if you’re a closer, it can be five or six wins converted into losses, attended by the same number of vitriolic back pages and hours of talk-radio screaming.

The cliche of closers is that to survive they develop very short memories. But I always had the feeling Wagner didn’t do it that way — that he actually had a long memory, one that preserved every failure and slight, and that he survived by being tougher than most any of us could imagine having to be.

    . . .

As we all know, Wagner became the Astros’ closer, entering games to “Enter Sandman” long before the closer of a certain fourth-place team farther east became identified with the song. That was a long way from southwestern Virginia, but it wasn’t exactly easy. In ‘98 Kelly Stinnett rocketed a line drive off Wagner’s skull that left him lying on the mound, legs twitching and blood coming out of one ear. He was back in less than three weeks. In the summer of 2000 he had surgery for a partially torn elbow tendon and was soft-tossing in September.

Wagner’s 37 now, and at that age the kind of surgery he’s about to have is inevitably and correctly called “career-threatening.” It’s possible he’ll never pitch again. But I wouldn’t dare bet against him. If Wagner doesn’t return, it’ll be because his body couldn’t take it, and not because of any lack of courage or determination. If you doubt that, just go up and read those last few paragraphs again.

Maybe he flew in to apply for the job and that’s why he was near Shea. Too bad, jerk you blew your chances.

Eddie C said they’ll definitely get the game in.

SO why is everyone so down on Pedro?? He really only had the one bad start. I know he gave up 5 to the Phillies in 5 innings but he struck out 8 in that game so his stuff is still there. He was back into the high 80s in his last start so maybe he’s turned a corner

I, for one, never thought Omar would acquire a criminal like Dominatrix CheeseBurgos. This is sick. I for one do not condone what Dominatrix did. Biting and hitting is not fair play. However, this went on under Omar’s watch. Do you think Brian Bannister, who I might add would of had a sub 4 era as our fifth starter this year, would ever be involved in stuff like this? N-O! Worse trade ever.

I once had something similar where i was unsure when a senior partner was gonna review the final document

I came in at 6am to meet with him, cuz that’s usually a good time to get him alone and focused on “your” stuff, only to find out he decided to work from home that day!

    yessssssssssssssssss!

Are you supposed to sit there and wait?

I think that I’m not supposed to sit and wait. But I’m baffled. I’ll get some other work done and give him an hour or so to get back to me. If not, I’ll assume that he doesn’t mean for me to wait around. I doubt that he does.

Good God. I’d have been furious.

    How do you like that?

    Do you have my job?

Here, the partner would email me his comments at 10:00 tonight (after his dinner) and expect me to have everything incorporated and out by first thing the next morning
