Robert Carson 12 strikeouts in 6 innings. Those are Henry Owens like numbers.

  2. Comment posted by Danny on July 11, 2008 at 10:23 am (#759810)

Carson was picked in the 14th round last year out of high school. His 17 innings this year have been really impressive. Not only does he have a K/BB ratio of 21/6, but his GB/FB ratio is 6.25. Holy cow.

And the dude is a big lefty, 6′3″ and 220 pounds. And still only 19. Someone to definitely keep an eye on.

Okay, they have got to give Brandon Knight (AAA) a shot in the big leagues as a Muniz-like guy. He could really turn into a huge player if used properly. His K% is phenomenal and he doesn’t ever get hit hard.

Pat, it’s Triple-A numbers from a guy in his early thirties.

Remember when everyone said “the numbers were so great” for Vargas?

Remember when everyone said “the numbers were so great” for Armas?

C’mon. All that means is he’s good at getting guys at a Ben Johnson/Valentino Pascucci/David Newhan/Chris Agulia talent level out.

  5. Comment posted by Pat Andriola on July 11, 2008 at 11:01 am (#759879)

    Littlefalls,

He has a very good K:BB ratio and is a power arm with a good fastball. I’m not saying he’s any big thing, but he could be a solid mop-up guy who has the ability to go 5 innings needbeit.

Vargas only had a .244 BAA against and a 1.19 WHIP in the majors in 2008

golly he sucked! sigh LFM, not everything fits into the little baskets you force them, sorry dude, no matter how hard you try.

anyone know anything about his defense????

maybe its starting to click for him!

Parnell is most definately a dude to watch out for. If you take away his crappy April you will see that he has pitched 2+ stellar months in AA Binghamton. He and Niese give me much hope….

  11. Comment posted by Ellis Dee on July 11, 2008 at 12:38 pm (#760016)

Dep, I think I remember chris saying Veloz’ D sucked, but maybe he was just having a bad day (or he could’ve been talking about someone else and I’m confused).

Carson: Why did he only pitch 9 innings last year?

  12. Comment posted by Hubie on July 11, 2008 at 1:41 pm (#760076)

Carp is in a major free fall still. He must be something like 8 for 50.

  13. Comment posted by Danny on July 11, 2008 at 1:45 pm (#760080)

Ellis, could be a few things with Carson. He might have thrown a lot of pitches in high school so they wanted to rest his arm. He could have been a later signee. He could have started in an instructional league before rookie ball.

Niese threw like 24 innings the year he was drafted in the GCL. It’s pretty standard.

Re Carson: Any 19 yr-old lefty who is 6′3, doesn’t walk people and can K 12 in 6 innings is someone to watch at any level. Good stuff.

Good to see Tejada bang a couple of XBH.

Also, I’m having Wilmer Flores withdrawals.

And so begins the post-Moises Alou era for the Binghamton Mets.
