Re Wilmer Flores, for those who expressed concern at his being taken out yesterday after his HR:

apparently, no injury; he just wasn’t feeling well, per Mets Prospect Hub:

News on Wilmer: Flores blasted home run No. 5 in the first inning, then left after his second at bat not feeling well. Flores finished 1-for-2 and is now hitting .380 with 19 RBI — second in the league to Danville’s Gerardo Rodriguez.

“We took him out as a precaution. We’ll see how he feel tomorrow,” said Kingsport manager Pedro Lopez. “If he can’t play, we’ll have someone else in there.”

And while I’m still visiting metsprospecthub, it was a good night at Bingy. This Aguilar intrigues me, I confess:

    Binghamton 6, Altoona 2

Dan Murphy started at 2b for the first time in his career, and played error free baseball, and even had to turn over a 643 DP. It would be a very good thing if Murphy proved adequate at 2b, because his bat will definitely be able to carry him in the majors. Murphy also was on base three times with a double and 2 walks. Mike Carp and Saloman Manriquez had multi hit games for the Mets, while Fernando, Nick Evans and Emmanuel Garcia (0 for 4, .226) took 0-fers.

Salvador Aguilar, appointed to the AA ASG, picking up his EL leading 10th win tonight, firing 6 innings of 2 run ball, striking out 7. Aguila is 26, way too old to be considered a prospect, but it’s awfully hard to ignore the production he’s putting up, 10 wins before the ASB and a 2.83 era in 90+ innings. Eric Brown and Edgar Alfonzo finished off the game.

    Happy 4th all!

Nice to see the offense show up last night.

I’m glad they moved Murphy to 2nd. I’d asked about that a while ago. Hopefully he can handle it.

    Let’s win tonight!

Re Murphy to 2nd– nice to see the Mets moving a prospect to a position of need from one in which he is blocked… FOR A CHANGE!
Re Aguilar– yes, he´s old for AA, but some guys just figure it out later… hopefully he´s one of them.

    Let´s Go Mets!
    Happy 4th of July everybody!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Happy 4th to all!
Wouldn’t it be fun if that offense actually came to CBP with the Mets and helped out Santana?

No Alou for a while. Plans for him to play in Bingo have been scraped. Who knows what’s going on? Last week they talked about Pagan having surgery…now suddenly he’s on the mend. Do the Mets actually have a clue? It really is mind boggling.

Just win tonight, guys! Just win!

    Happy Independence Day…

Anyone know about Henry Owens’ rehab? I thought he was scheduled to start throwing in June but cannot find anything recent.

I was one of those guys who suggested that Pelfrey would be best off throwing out of the Mets’ bullpen this year. I am glad he is proving me wrong (though who knows how good he might have been coming out of the bullpen).

  13. Comment posted by sheadenizen on July 4, 2008 at 10:13 am (#749978)

Why do you care about Henry Owens? The Marlins placed him on the 60 day DL with a shoulder injury with a caveat he could be out for the season.

Unbelievable. I often wonder if other teams’ medical staffs seem as screwed up as the Mets. Apparently the doctors said Alou should have a few days off — no idea why. But it’s problematic at this point as to whether or not he’ll be back before the AS break.

Happy 4th all! How does Paul Mushnick have a job really? Douche.

Good to see Flores only sick. Also, Murphy playing second. Hopefully a couple of those AA guys can help next year.

Why do you care about Henry Owens?

Is there a reason I should not??

Anybody see the crazy play in the Red Sox-Yankees game? Youk his a ball to LF that looked like it might just make it out. Damon does a spasmodic leap, gets his glove on it while slamming his ribs into the wall. Ball pops out and lands on top of the fence and just sits there for about three seconds while Damon is down thinking it’s in his glove. Finally the vibrations of the fence lead the ball to tickle back into play & Youk gets 2 rbi triple. Just when you think you’ve seen it all . . .

As long as the Mets keep acting like the job is his no matter if he stumbles, Pelfrey is going to keep slowly improving, I reckon.

The injuries to Pedro and El Duque FORCED the organization to finally develop him properly at the MLB level, thankfully.

  42. Comment posted by Dave Magadan on July 4, 2008 at 5:40 pm (#750009)

I dont think we resign Pedro this offseason and pick up a FA. Ollie could be a goner too. Hopefully Niese,Parnell or the guy with the good record at AA could step in as a 5 guy.

  43. Comment posted by Dave in Spain on July 4, 2008 at 5:45 pm (#750010)

No big deal making 40-man roster room for Argenis Reyes. The Mets transferred Ambiorix Burgos to the 60-day DL, where players don’t count against the roster limit. Because Burgos hasn’t been active this season, the move is essentially backdated, meaning he could be activated whenever he’s ready. Burgos is apparently going to be pitching in a game by Aug. 1, just 11 months after Tommy John surgery. The hard-throwing reliever was acquired two winters ago from Kansas City for Brian Bannister.

  44. Comment posted by Dave Magadan on July 4, 2008 at 5:58 pm (#750011)

Ha I totally forgot about Ambriorix…dont even know if we have room for him in the pen this year.
