hahahaha, there is a real point in all that.

    i’m not getting into it.

But Jerry clearly sees it too!

Beltran wont do it though, he loves that career SB%.

    oh snap.

Ummmmmm….. shouldn’t a player try his hardest to keep his SB% up? I mean, what’s the point in trying to steel a base if you know there is a strong likelihood that you’ll get caught?

We don’t boo the other team.

The fans cheered Felix Hernandez when he came out Monday night, but that’s probably because he was hurt and they were happy. Never mind!….lol!

Now I don’t know if I agree with that. I seem to remember a lot of his steals being 3rd base to get himself in position to score on an out.

I wouldn’t say beltran’s steals are meaningless. He does like to steal 3rd with 1 out which is very important, like on Monday. I would say he is more sneaky when it comes to his attempts (like DW), below radar vs. Reyes who has even the centerfielders attention in anticipation of a bad throw from catcher on an upcoming attempt..

Nate Silver: Derek Jeter is 34 years old and is still trying to play a skill position … it’s surprising that he’s lasted this long *without* having a year like this. I’d put the over/under at the number of All-Star tams he makes over the rest of his career at 2.0.

Kinda, sorta related to the earlier discussion about the Mets record vs. last place clubs from Always Amazin’:

While watching the Mariners send the Jerry Manuel Interim Era below .500 in an 11-0 rout yesterday, I read an interesting statistic over at Baseball Crank about teams with success against teams well over .500:

Question of the day - can you name the four major league teams that are at least 5 games over .500 against teams with winning or .500 records?

…1. The Rays 37-26 (.587 in 63 games). By far the toughest schedule in the game, having played only 12 games against losing teams.

    2. The Red Sox 29-21 (.580 in 50 games).

    3. The Angels 24-17 (.585 in 41 games).

    4. The Mets 18-13 (.581 in 31 games). Yes, those Mets.

Wasn’t expecting that, were you? Me neither.

That, of course, means the Mets are also 19-28 against team below or teetering around .500. (The post at Baseball Crank appeared Monday, when the Mets rested comfortably at 37-37. I added the two losses against the Mariners.)

    4. The Mets 18-13 (.581 in 31 games). Yes, those Mets.

Also the smallest sample size…but we’ll take it!
Amazing they can’t beat the dregs of the league. Maybe fightening is a better description.

Mets first round draft pick Ike Davis will travel with the Brooklyn Cyclones tonight when they take on the Hudson Valley Renegades but will not play until Friday.

According to the Times-Herald Record, Ryan Church will not be with the team.

Some excitement occurred last night in Binghamton however. The Press & Sun Bulletin recaps a brawl that took place between B-Mets manager Mako Oliveras and Altoona Curve manager Tim Leiper.

Of the incident, Brian Moritz writes:

“An ugly bench-clearing brawl between the Binghamton Mets and the Altoona Curve in the bottom of the ninth inning marred the Curve’s 6-4 victory at NYSEG Stadium.”

“The brawl came during a pitching change with two out in the ninth. Punches were thrown by members of both teams, as the dugouts cleared and bullpens emptied during a wild melee.”

“Oliveras said. “I’m too old for this, but I’m not going to back down from anybody.”

doesnt sound like ryan will be back this weekend

Fishkill - Sorry, Hudson Valley Renegades fans, but Mets outfielder Ryan Church won’t be making the trek to Dutchess Stadium tonight.

Church, on the disabled list with post-concussion symptoms since June 9, was expected to make a rehab assignment for the Brooklyn Cyclones in Fishkill. But his start has been pushed back to at least Thursday when Brooklyn hosts Aberdeen (Md.).

Church is pining for a return for this weekend’s Subway Series. However, after a second straight workout at Shea Stadium yesterday, he told MLB.com: “That he still doesn’t feel like his conditioning is where it needs to be for him to play.”

Church’s workout yesterday at Shea was more intense than Monday’s and he said he feels no lingering effects from the head injury.

“I’m not going to lose any sleep over him not coming,” said Renegades outfielder Jason Appel, a Long Island native. But it would have been cool to see how talented (Church) was in person. I’m a Mets fan, but he’s not one of my favorites, especially since he was going to be playing against us. But it was a good trade for the Mets (from Washington).”

Church suffered two concussions in just three months. His first came on March 1 during spring training when he collided with Marlon Anderson as both players chased down a fly ball. Church sustained another concussion on May 20, while sliding into shortstop Yunel Escobar, trying to break up a game-ending double play.

Church, batting .300 with 10 homers and 35 RBI for the Mets this season, returned to the starting lineup on June 1 against the Dodgers. He even had three hits, including a home run. However, the Mets later placed Church on the DL with post-concussion symptoms.
