Yeah, I have stayed up to watch every game on the trip. And then I was mad about the way the game ended and didn’t go to sleep right away.

I’m thinking about taking some shots of espresso.

I’ve been trying to go to bed before the game starts so I won’t be tempted to stay up too late, but I’ve seen the first few innings if each game. Last night it was relatively easy to turn it off in the third inning. Needless to say, I was glad I hadn’t stayed up.

I get the feeling that my mom won’t let me stay up to watch any of the game tonight. When I get sick like I did last night, it’s usually 2 days before she lets me eat anything more flavorful than saltine crackers. Moving back home after college sucks.

  7. Comment posted by Danny on June 6, 2008 at 6:03 pm (#719215)

Brutal ending. Just… brutal. We were all bracing ourselves for 18 innings of baseball and NO sleep. That would have been fun!

I’m off to grab some dinner. Be back on in a bit!

  8. Comment posted by Danny on June 6, 2008 at 6:04 pm (#719216)

Their house and their rules sucks so bad after the freedom of college. You’ll adjust but still be yearning to move out on your own whenever you can!

  9. Comment posted by Athena on June 6, 2008 at 6:04 pm (#719217)

Haha, Jessica! My mother still comments on things like that and I’ve been out of college for . . . quite a long time! Some moms will never stop being moms. By the way, my mother’s remedy for an upset stomach was dry toast and tea. (Better than saltines.)

  10. Comment posted by Athena on June 6, 2008 at 6:06 pm (#719218)

Talk to you in a bit, Danny.

  11. Comment posted by bcuster on June 6, 2008 at 6:06 pm (#719219)

when i left college, it was right into the navy for me. after i left the navy, my mother would not let me stay in her house for even 1 week. nice…

  12. Comment posted by Athena on June 6, 2008 at 6:09 pm (#719220)

That’s funny, bcuster! My brother always says that he will never let his kids come home to live. I suspect my sister-in-law might have a different opinion. If not, they can stay with their Aunt Athena!

I’m going to head home. Be back later.

Can someone tell me if this makes any sense at all? http://metsmerizedonline.com/blog/2008/06/everybody_chill_out_about_vale.html
Because as far as I can tell it is complete nonsense. The Mets don’t call up Pascucci because they don’t want to lose him. They would lose him if they don’t want him. They don’t want to use him because they don’t want to lose him. They use other guys because they are useless to them, and don’t mind losing them.

    Mind-numbingly stupid.

  100. Comment posted by Danny on June 6, 2008 at 8:11 pm (#719277)

He’s suggesting that the Mets won’t call up Pascucci unless they think he will be a long-term solution, because he has no options and would have to DFA him to return him to AAA.

I just don’t really buy that explanation at all.

  101. Comment posted by Turning Point #4 on June 6, 2008 at 8:14 pm (#719278)

  103. Comment posted by John Peterson on June 6, 2008 at 8:19 pm (#719279)

Yea, because they would have to DFA him, and because they don’t want to lose him, instead they use guys whom they wouldn’t care to lose when they have to DFA them. So they intentionally make their team worse.

That would only ever make sense if they had to demote Pascucci after purchasing his contract. But why would they need to do that? THE WHOLE POINT of needing Pascucci is that he fills a needed role on the Mets RIGHT NOW, whereas everyone else on the bench instead of Ramon Castro is totally expendable and replaceable.

It’s a roundabout way of saying, ultimately, that the Mets are right to see a greater value to the team right now in Tatis, Easley, Anderson, Pagan, Evans, Chavez, Nunez, Casanova and basically anyone, because a lot of those players flat-out suck, than Val Pascucci. Which is to say that he is agreeing with Omar Minaya that Pascucci has no value to the team. It’s not that they don’t want to lose him, it’s that they don’t think very highly of him.

“I would be uncomfortable” seeing public displays of affection between lesbians or gay men, said Jim Ridneour, a 54-year-old taxi driver. “I don’t think it’s right seeing women kissing in public. If I had my family there, I’d have to explain what’s going on.”
