Jon (NY): Did the Mets make a mistake in trading Deolis Guerra in the Santana deal and not Pelfrey (whom I’m sure the Twins would’ve taken instead)?

Bryan Smith: No, I don’t think that’s fair. We have to look at this trade from a winter perspective, when the door on Pelfrey was really starting to close. Guerra has some fabulous potential, and given his youth, his projection is better than Pelrey’s. That said, could you have convinced the Mets for Pelfrey over Mulvey? Without an understanding of the negotiation it’s impossible to guess, and I’d also bet the Twins wanted a surer bet like Mulvey rather than three wild cards in Gomez, Guerra and Pelfrey.

Guerra has had a couple of really rough starts recently. He’s got plenty of time, of course.

    booyah, from roto

The Yankees admitted Friday that Double-A Trenton’s Jose Tabata was suspended for three games before returning Thursday.
Tabata was penalized for storming out of the clubhouse and going home moments after striking out in the seventh inning of Saturday’s game. “The expectations of who I am supposed to be and what I am supposed to do finally got to me,” he said through assistant coach and translator, Julius Matos. “I made an irrational decision. Maybe it was immaturity, inexperience or just that I didn’t know how to handle what was happening. I just kept thinking I am not producing the way I should be and maybe I didn’t belong here.” Tabata, who was hitting just .188 at the time of the incident, is frustrated enough that he contemplated asking the Yankees for his release. There’s no chance he would have gotten it, but that he was even in that frame of mind seems like a bad sign for the future.

ESPN’s Peter Gammons has a new blog post to discuss.

    * Gammons says Cubs manager Lou Piniella would like to add a left-handed hitting right or center fielder to bat fifth. Milton Bradley and Ken Griffey Jr. seem like long shots though. It’s odd that the Rangers wouldn’t want to move Bradley.
    * Gammons notes that the Rangers wanted Mike Pelfrey, Aaron Heilman, and Deolis Guerra for Vicente Padilla in the offseason. Even as a negotiation starting point, that’s a ton for Padilla.

HAHAHA!!! Wonder what they would want for Bradley. Wright and Reyes?
