Yeah, tsn was first with the news of lacerated spleen. Apparently the CT scan picked it up when Avery came in.

And missing the remainder of the playoffs, that’s just one more game.

sorry if any of this is old, bye brady!

Reliever Matt Wise, who has been on the DL since April 8 with a right forearm bruise, is expected to rejoin the Mets in Arizona this weekend after a rehab appearance Thursday.

How the Mets clear roster room for Wise should be interesting. Joe Smith can be optioned to the minors without passing through waivers, but he’s pitching so well, it’s hard to justify a demotion. That would seemingly make Jorge Sosa, who has a $2 million contract, vulnerable. Sosa, who won last night’s game with a scoreless 11th to shave his ERA to 6.89, could refuse any demotion and still collect his salary.

THUMB-THING WRONG: Brian Schneider may be released from the Hospital for Special Surgery today, six days after he was admitted with a “mixed organism infection” in his left thumb caused by skin bacteria, GM Omar Minaya said. Schneider remains on the active roster. His availability by Friday in Phoenix would allow the Mets to demote third catcher Gustavo Molina to clear room for Moises Alou. Schneider had pus drained from the thumb, but Minaya said no large incision was needed.

SEE YA: Brady Clark cleared waivers, but is expected to retire rather than report to Triple-A New Orleans…. Jose Pornstache (neck) has been cleared to begin limited baseball activities in Port St. Lucie. He expects to hit off a tee and long toss this week. “I haven’t done anything for a month,” Pornstache cautioned. … Rick Down, fired as hitting coach at the All-Star break last year, attended yesterday’s game as a scout for the Giants…. Ramon Castro, who caught seven innings Monday in St. Lucie, is “still limping when he’s running,” Minaya said. … Ryan Church, who tweaked his right ankle making a critical catch Sunday in right center, said he’s 100% but had the leg wrapped. Church indicated the tape job was for one game only. … The Mets won’t have an easy draw against the D-Backs. They’ll face Micah Owings, Brandon Webb and Dan Haren in the series. They’re a combined 14-1.

GRAY MATTER: Nelson Figueroa, Class of ‘92, visited Lincoln High yesterday. He was presented with his old gray No. 2 road jersey. His home jersey couldn’t be located with good reason - Figueroa kept it after his playing days at the Brooklyn school, where he won a city championship as a sophomore at Yankee Stadium playing left field.

where the hell did the cardiac arrest thing come from?
Did Ed Coleman report it or something?

it was probably a drug overdose and that just happened to catch the lacerated spleen on the scan

I think the Mets hold the record for these kinds of players.

    Boom Boom!

Well, if he had internal bleeding caused by the spleen. He could have gone into cardiac arrest. I’m fairly sure that an undetected spleen injury is life-threatening.

apparently they misspelled lacerated with cardiac. I always mix those up myself.

yea that must be it ;)

When do the Mets NOT get the best 3 starting pitchers from the other team? It’s because of our handshakes.

If his spleen was lacerated he probably fell like he was having a heart attack and called 911.

    From ESPN.com

TheNew York Rangers said forward Sean Avery suffered a lacerated spleen in Tuesday night’s Stanley Cup playoff game.

The team announcement came as the New York Daily News reported Avery had been taken to a Manhattan hospital in cardiac arrest, citing unnamed sources.

The Rangers said Avery was admitted to St. Vincent’s Medical Center following a CT scan and is expected to make a full recovery, but he will not play again in the playoffs.

Avery was unconscious and not breathing, the Daily News reported.

A source at St. Vincent’s Medical Center said Avery, 28, arrived at about 3 a.m. Wednesday morning. Hours earlier, the Rangers lost 5-3 in the Stanley Cup playoffs against the Pittsburgh Penguins at Madison Square Garden. The Penguins took a 3-0 series lead with the win.
