First to point out that Santana was probably worn out from protesting outside Dep’s apartment on Friday

i’ll keep this short & simple. the irish had a goal disallowed that clearly should noy have been. it came at a critical time that affected theflow of the game and ultimately the national championship. the announcers, the refs all said goal. some nerd loser in the replay changed the course of history. just wrong..

While I still like the prospects of Texiera being the first baseman for the Mets in 09, Carp so far is re-emerging as a candidate. Can Carp field at all?

Nice job, as usual, Jessica.
[pj, addressing the editors at Newsday] Is there any chance we can get Newsday to shitcan Matthews and hire this bright young woman?

Could someone please tell me what has happened to the Mets HR power? 4 HR’s in 10 games? Please don’t tell me it’s the weather or the stadium. To a small degree, it’s true. But other teams seem to be able to hit HR’s at Shea. The Mets have warning track power. That seems to be it. I think it’s a bit worrisome.

Mets have been outhomered 6-2 this homestand, right?

To be fair, Easley was robbed of one in the home opener, and Delgado almost took one out yesterday before it hit the fence. That’s Shea Stadium for you: I always think it hurts Mets hitters moreso than visiting ones.

I like that explanation, PHL. I’ll go with it ;-)

Ugh, we’ll have to endure another game with Easley at short. I guess Reyes has a good chance of playing on Tuesday.

Alou is missing.
How much power can we reasonably expect from our SS, 2b, C, P? This is almost half our lineup and we aren’t going to get 35 HR out of those 4 spots for the entire season. God help us if we have to play Andy Hernandy for a long stretch.
Pagan and Church have been pleasant surprises. DW and Delgado have shown glimpses of power. Beltran has no homeruns*, but the doubles suggest he is pretty close at Shea and will get his numbers on the road. This team has a history of performing better in their away jerseys, so I think we’ll see a power surge when they visit the little parks in DC and Philly next week.
*Beltran has one homerun, but the umps conferred and made sure they got it wrong.

How bout Sanchez. One k in a 1-2-3 inning. Struck out Reggie Abercrombie
And Shea, check out Brian Stokes’ line.
7ip, 5 k’s, 3 hits, 1 BB and 0 runs

PJ, Reyes should hit some HR. 20 maybe. In fairness the Mets have played all their games in most pitcher friendly NL parks. Florida, Turner and Shea.

Beltran and Wright will get their 30+, but Delgado getting 25+ and Church getting close to 20 would help a bit. I don’t see Reyes hitting 20, though. I would like to see a lot more doubles and triples, though.

I’m in a bit of worry wart mode, so take everything I say with a grain of salt. This too shall pass. But I do find the offense a bit worrisome. They score a few runs early…if we’re lucky, but can never seem to close it out.
With aplogies to Richard Daley…they need to score early and often.

It is encouraging the Mets have won games when their offense hasn’t shown up (like the Yankees and unlike the Tigers). But they’ve gotta wake up eventually.

Chris, I saw Stokes’ line. I had to read it twice to make sure I read it correctly the first time. I will refrain from comment until I see him do it again a few more times.
I’m happy about Sanchez and hope that Willie goes slowly with him and doesn’t throw him into the 8th inning immediately.
And I’m worried about Reyes. Tuesday night (according to the weather report I just saw) will be cold and probably not conducive to Reyes playing. I may shoot myself if I have to watch Easley play much more of SS. I see him being out more than a few days.
Okay, I’m done with all my worries. Thanks for letting me get it out of system.

Seeing Easley at shortstop makes us appreciate Reyes’ super defense a little more, no?
Binghamton is scoring like 8 runs a game this season, we should call up some of those kids!
