Mets starters all pitched well. Antonini threw a six-inning no-hitter for Savannah. Bostick, Niese and El Duque were all very impressive.

    Best.Feature.OnTheGeek.

Some great pitching from the Mets up and down the farm. Lovely stuff from Adam Bostick.

Carp hit his HR off of a lefty with major league experience. What will Bingy do with Evans when they can’t use the DH? He needs at-bats. This bears watching.

    Good start from Francisco?!

Lucas Duda baby. good start for him. he’s my #1 guy to watch this year, Ruben Tejada #2!!! Niese #3!

I am surprised to see F! leading off. He looks more like a #3 hitter to me.

Nice to see Pena get off to a good start.

Joe, we have all wondered about that before with Fernando! and our theory is that the Mets just want to get him as many at-bats as they can and this maximizes his at-bats.

Yeah. F-Bomb needs more cuts to make up for last year’s injuries.

The development of the most legitimate positional prospect above single-A matters more than the game-strategy for Bingy, certainly.

its not that simple though. The approach of a lead off hitter is different from the approach of a #3 hitter. Its not a big deal because its a minor adjustment, but I don’t see the benefit of getting him an extra 20-30 at bats as being all that important either. It reminds me of Milledge playing CF in AAA even though he was going to play a corner in the majors.

They probably don’t want for him to think like a power hitter yet. He’s not going to get called up and slotted in the 5 hole.

Has Carp made it past AA in past years? How old is he now?

Carp is 22. Last year was Carp’s first year in Binghamton, and this is the first year he’s repeating a level.

Joe A., Milledge played CF, just like all the prospects stick at the prime positions as long as possible, to maximize his market value.

I agree with you about leading off, though — I’d rather have him developing that RBI-machine mentality than getting a couple dozen extra plates. Buckling down and driving a single the other way with RISP is an important psychological skill.
