Mets’ 8th Inning Sing-a-Long

Mercifully, the Mets have enlisted our help to dump the awful “Sweet Caroline” from the 8th inning. That’s a Red Sox song and a Rangers’ song, not a Mets’ song. If we allow “Sweet Caroline” to win the vote, we have earned our fate for the last season at Shea.

Here are the options:

Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison
Build Me Up Buttercup - The Foundations
I’ll Be There For You - The Rembrandts
I’m A Believer - The Monkees
Land Of 1000 Dances - Wilson Pickett
I Love Rock N’ Roll - Joan Jett & the Blackhearts
Livin’ On A Prayer - Bon Jovi
Movin’ Out - Billy Joel
Sweet Caroline - Neil Diamond
Waitin’ On A Sunny Day - Bruce Springsteen

They also have an “other” option. If we come up with a good one, perhaps our strength in numbers can force the Mets’ hand. Otherwise, I am happy with a lot of these choices.

So, let’s have at it. Any ideas or thoughts?

When I first saw the list I whined ‘Lame’ in my best Eric Cartman voice. But when you try to think of an alternative it’s not easy. It’s got to be short (there goes ‘King of Rock’ by Run-DMC), easy to sing along with, and reasonably family friendly. Kid Rock and Eminem are right out.

Maybe you could trot out “Seven Nation Army” — if Pelfrey hasn’t imploded you can put him on the Diamond Vision when they sing I’m Goin’ to Wichita.

Last Resort: Digital Underground, “The Humpty Dance”

“It’s the most treacherous dugout in baseball.”

So true. The third base coach is selling military secrets to the Chinese.

Oops that hilarious comment was meant for the game thread.

    I’m dumb.

I’m not sure I like movin out neccesarily, but someone local to New York like Billy Joel who will play the last concert at shea would be preferrable to me

I have an irrational love for The Monkees so I voted for “I’m a Believer”. Plus, that ties into Ya Gotta Believe!, which I enjoyed.

    I too voted for “I’m A Believer.” Aren’t we all?….or we wouldn’t be here!

I’ve never even heard the name Rick Astley before, but that ($&)*&$ “Never GOnna Give You Up” song would actually discourage me from attending Mets games. Why must the list be filled with pop crap that’s been on lite radio for the last 20-30 years straight?

Sweet Caroline’s got good stadium sing-along appeal, with the 2 threes:
    “oh! oh! oh!”
    and
“so good! so good! so good!”

We need a GOOD song that has a comparable participatory hook and we’ll be golden. I recommend Runaway Jim by Phish.

I had a dog whose name was Jim
    run away
    run away, run away
he took all of my old clothes with him
    run away
    run away, run away

    whoa-o-o
    whoa, runaway Jim
    whoa-o-o
    whoa, runaway Jim

It’s family-friendly, and both the chorus and the end of every verse line are sing-alongable.

    Other brainstorms:
    Come Out and Play (Offspring)
    Golgi Apparatus (Phish)
    The Sweater Song (Weezer)
    When I’m 64 (Beatles)
    Immigrant Song (Led Zeppelin)

(Of course, what I REALLY want is Killing In The Name by Rage, but that might fail the “family friendly” test.)

    When I’m 64 (Beatles)

    Leave El Duque alone, man
