F! can certainly smoke the horsehide. He’s probably a corner OF or a first baseman in the making though.
Yes, and with his arm he can play RF. I heard he pegged a runner at first yesterday in the split squad game.

I am glad that Geeks are excited about FMart. It would be great if his prediction comes true (he is at Shea before September). But there is something I don’t understand. On the one hand, I hear he is a 5 tool player, and he is playing CF. On the other hand, I read that he does not have the range and quickness to be a CF. And he can be a right fielder because nowadays, right fielders don’t have the power arms they used to have. If he doesn’t have exceptional range, and he doesn’t have exceptional quickness and he doesn’t have an exceptional arm, how did he get awarded all these five tools? I also hear now and then the possibility of turning him into a first baseman. Are the Mets really considering it? Is he slated for AAA or AA?
Comment posted byITACon March 17, 2008 at 3:51 pm (#629371)
I think Show could face and beat a dangerous lefty like Howard. His numbers suggest this to be the case. Rincon’s ERA this Spring hasn’t been so great. I know I haven’t seen him pitch, but a reliever who had injury issues in 2007 and has a 6.75 ERA this Spring isn’t going to merit overlooking a guy like Show, who far all of his myriad issues in 07′, was pretty damn good against left-handers.
Comment posted byDoctorK16on March 17, 2008 at 3:51 pm (#629372)
His reactions are not good in the outfield Eli. He has the speed for CF but not the quickness. I doubt he becomes a first baseman, we just all float that because of his size.

Agreed. But, so long as Show was the last option available or as long as the game is out of hand either way. Show should be used a lefty at a time in a meaningful inning or where there are at least 2 left-handed batters to face.

On top of this, which you are VERY right to point out, is the fact that our staff is K’ing a shitload of hitters to boot. Outside of Diaz’s fart this 9th inning (3 BB) the staff had no walks and 6 combined Ks. I’ve seen similar boxscores all Spring long.

I think you need that one LOOGY because a pen is more than the sum of its parts and it helps to have guys who can offer different looks. Even if that LOOGY is very useful against left-handed batters and piss poor against right-handed batters, his presence out of the pen would offer a different look than a pen full of (most probably) changeup throwing right-handers with decent splits against lefties. That was what I LOVED about our 06′ pen. We had so much *depth and variety* it gave Willie so many options and always gave us matchup advantages late in games.

Is your St. Patrick’s day incomplete without a pint of green beer? Here’s how to make it.
How to Make Green Beer
INGREDIENTS:
One 12oz Beer - any beer will do although lighter colored beers will display the green better
Green food coloring - one drop
PREPARATION:
Add one drop of green food coloring to your pint glass. Pour the beer into the glass.

I’m English. If you’re not Irish and you celebrate this “holiday” god bless you but I am wearing English Red today.
Then Godbless the little Puerto Rican muncipality of Luquillo.
Puerto Rican coastal town may be the last place you expect to see a St. Patrick’s Day parade.
Then again, everyone’s a little Irish on March 17 — even if you’re on an island thousands of miles from the Emerald one and your native tongue is Spanish.
For the last several years, the town of Luquillo has hosted a day-long festival honoring Ireland’s patron saint, thanks to the work of a Hilltown couple. For years, Larry and Sue Keefe have spent their winters in the warmth of northeastern Puerto Rico.
Five years ago, St. Patrick’s Day was approaching, and the couple, along with a few other mainlanders of Irish descent and some bona fide Irishmen, found they had no way to mark the holiday.
So they threw a parade. Decked in green, and accompanied by a boom box blasting Celtic ditties, the small group marched down a street.
Natives in the old fishing town were confused at first, but gathered to watch the commotion.
“They came off the beach. The reaction was great,” said Keefe, 69. “The following year they joined us.”
Last year’s parade drew about 200 people, waving flags alongside floats and banners. Revelers wear their Bermuda shorts (because the temperature reaches the 80s) and green shirts. The town lends the organizers its speakers atop a truck to play their music and the mayor even sends a police escort.
Keefe believes the Luquillo event is the only St. Patrick’s parade in all of Puerto Rico.
“Puerto Rican people are so nice and hospitable and they love to have festivals,” he said. “It’s a really fun day and probably one of the funniest things I’ve ever done in my life.”
In their first year, organizers had to improvise. Keefe, who had to fly home for a funeral, picked up 35 pounds of corned beef for the occasion. Nowadays, the traditional Irish delicacy is bought locally.
But there are some definite Spanish influences in this celebration.
For one, St. Patrick is called San Patricio. There’s also no Guinness; the beer is a local brew.
Keefe said there are more Puerto Ricans of Irish descent than one might expect. Former Navy officers, for example, settled on the island after World War II and married local women. He’s friends with a man named Jose O’Neil. And some Irish men and women made their way to Puerto Rico as early as the 19th century when the potato famine, which spurred large waves of immigration to the mainland United States, drew people to the largely Catholic island.

Thanks Bcuster, I thought you’d like it. Yeah, the Irish are everywhere. They truely are one of the great diaspora of peoples in the world. Everywhere I go I see their influence and as the article mentioned, you can see that there is a more than an insignificant amount of people of Irish extraction in Puerto Rico, as well as throughout the Caribbean.

At the same time, he definitely needs time to rebuilding his arm strength/general game and a 15 day stint in the minors, I think, would help a LOT.

Mets and Anheuser-Busch sign new multi-year marketing agreement for final year at Shea and for Citi Field
03/17/2008 11:18 AM ET
MLB.com
FLUSHING — The New York Mets’ home venue will change in 2009, but thanks to a deal announced today, the team’s association with one of the world’s premier sports marketers - Anheuser-Busch, Inc. - will continue.
Anheuser-Busch and the Mets today announced a multi-year marketing agreement in which the world’s best-selling beers, Budweiser and Bud Light, become the Mets’ first Signature Partner at Citi Field with an unprecedented and comprehensive set of rights and benefits across multiple properties and platforms.
Budweiser, the Great American Lager, and Bud Light, the world’s best-selling American-style light lager, will continue as the exclusive alcohol beverage partner for in-venue signage for the Mets’ final season at Shea Stadium in 2008 as well as when the team opens Citi Field, its new world-class home, in 2009. In addition, the new agreement includes extensive media and enhancement presence during Mets television broadcasts on SportsNet New York (SNY) and Mets’ radio broadcasts in Spanish.
Mets fans attending games at Citi Field will notice significant stadium signage including identification on the front and back of the main scoreboard, outfield wall, and first and third base rotationals, in addition to signage throughout the concourse. Budweiser and Bud Light also will be incorporated into other Mets marketing and media assets including Mets publications and in game programming features.
“We’re excited to be a part of the final season at Shea Stadium and to have secured a presence in Citi Field for years to come,” said Tony Ponturo, Vice President, Global Media and Sports Marketing, Anheuser-Busch, Inc. “Mets fans are a special breed. As a marketer you hope some of that great loyalty rubs off through the association with Budweiser and Bud Light.”
“It is only fitting that an icon in sports marketing is our first Signature Partner at Citi Field,” said Dave Howard, Executive Vice President, Business Operations, New York Mets. “The undisputed leader in its industry, Anheuser-Busch is one of the world’s premier marketers. It has a unique ability to activate this sponsorship to connect the Mets with current and potential fans through its powerful network of wholesalers and retailers.”
Anheuser-Busch has been the Official Beer Sponsor of MLB since 1996, and also sponsors 26 of the league’s 29 domestic teams. As a part of its deal with the team, Anheuser-Busch has the rights to Mets-specific packaging and plans to recognize the final season at Shea with commemorative aluminum bottles and cans this season. The Mets’ longstanding relationship with Anheuser-Busch dates back more than a quarter century.
Based in St. Louis, Anheuser-Busch is the leading American brewer, holding a 48.5 percent share of U.S. beer sales. The company brews the world’s largest-selling beers, Budweiser and Bud Light. Anheuser-Busch also owns a 50 percent share in Grupo Modelo, Mexico’s leading brewer, and a 27 percent share in China brewer Tsingtao, whose namesake beer brand is the country’s best-selling premium beer. Anheuser-Busch ranked No. 1 among beverage companies in FORTUNE Magazine’s Most Admired U.S. and Global Companies lists in 2008. Anheuser-Busch is one of the largest theme park operators in the United States, is a major manufacturer of aluminum cans and one of the world’s largest recyclers of aluminum cans. For more information, visit http://www.anheuser-busch.com.
The Mets, in conjunction with their construction partners Hunt-Bovis and HOK, began construction of the 45,000-capacity Citi Field in 2006 in the outfield parking lot between Shea Stadium and 126th Street. Citi Field will open in April 2009.

Register is a rule 5 so he has to stay with the team all year or we lose him. He’s looked good so far and if he continues to pitch well I think they will try to keep him.
So, Sanchez will probably have to wait for an injury, a trade, or somebody to stink before he gets the nod.

LSD….Sanchez is definitely not ready for prime time. What’s the point of having a reliever in the pen who can’t pitch more than once or twice a week?
He needs more time to build up his arm strength and get his control back. Register can hold down the spot for Sanchez….but then what happens? Reghister can’t be sent to the minors.

Paterson Could Derail Development
Opposes Use of Eminent Domain
If David Paterson as governor displays the opposition to eminent domain that he showed as a state senator, several high-profile development projects in New York City could be derailed or delayed, including a Columbia University expansion, the Atlantic Yards project in Brooklyn, and the transformation of Willets Point in Queens.
As a state Senate leader, Mr. Paterson in 2005 held a rally with Council Member Letitia James and state Senator William Perkins on the steps of City Hall during which he called for a statewide moratorium on the use of eminent domain.
Mr. Paterson said a decision handed down by the Supreme Court in the Kelo v. City of New London case could lead to a “gold rush” of eminent domain use across the state, The New York Sun reported at the time. He said he would gather legislators and introduce legislation to impose a moratorium on its use.
“He stood with me and proposed some legislation and I am very hopeful that the lieutenant governor and soon-to-be governor will honor his commitment and will either issue a moratorium or review the abuse of eminent domain across New York City,” Ms. James said yesterday in an interview.
Ms. James’s district is in Brooklyn, and she opposes developer Bruce Ratner’s $4 billion Atlantic Yards project near downtown Brooklyn, which would require use of eminent domain.
Mr. Paterson’s opposition to eminent domain could also pit him against Mayor Bloomberg, who has defended its use. “You would never build any big thing any place in any big city in this country if you didn’t have the power of eminent domain,” Mr. Bloomberg once said.
A moratorium on eminent domain “would be shocking,” a developer, who declined to speak for attribution before any official action was taken by Mr. Paterson, said. “It would be really out of left field and send a very scary message.”
At the time of the rally, Mr. Paterson was a state senator whose Harlem constituents were concerned about the expansion of Columbia University.
The Supreme Court had just ruled that the use of eminent domain for economic development did not violate state and federal constitutions.
Mr. Perkins, who assumed Mr. Paterson’s seat when the latter became lieutenant governor and considers Mr. Paterson a friend, said he hadn’t had a chance to discuss the issue with Mr. Paterson but was “very confident that we are going to work well together.”
A spokesman for Mr. Paterson was unavailable for comment yesterday.
The president of the Real Estate Board of New York, Steven Spinola, said he was not very concerned about the issue, and that other pressing needs such as resolving the state budget would dominate the agenda for now.
“It would clearly be a mistake for the state to give up one of its powers to get public improvement projects off the ground,” said Mr. Spinola.
Instability in Albany is a concern to developers, as Governor Spitzer, the scion of a large New York real estate family, had been viewed as a friend to the industry. The assumption of power by Mr. Paterson comes at a precarious time for the development and construction industries, and developers say it is difficult to gauge how development-friendly Mr. Paterson will be.
“I don’t believe he has a built in prejudice against economic development or development. It is still premature to try to figure out what he is going to do but he is somebody we have been able to work with for 20 years when he was in the state Senate,” Mr. Spinola said.
At a press conference yesterday Mr. Paterson was asked how his policies differed from Mr. Spitzer’s. His response suggested that positions he previously held had not changed very much.
“There are some points of view I guess that I’ve changed over the years, but I’m pretty much the same person,” he said.
Mr. Ratner is planning to build a basketball arena and 16 mostly residential towers on 22 acres in Prospect Heights. The plans would remake the low-rise neighborhood with 8 million square feet of development, including more than 6,000 apartments, “affordable” housing, and office and retail space in a complex designed by architect Frank Gehry.
A spokesman for Forest City Ratner declined comment.
Other projects that would be affected include the $7 billion proposed expansion of Columbia University over the next 25 years, which would extend the campus with glass-walled buildings, tree-lined streets, and student dormitories in Upper Manhattan. There is also the Bloomberg administration’s $3 billion plan to turn 75-acre site near Shea Stadium in Queens — known as Willets Point — into a destination retail and entertainment facility.
Both plans would likely call for the use of eminent domain.
A spokeswoman for Columbia University said the University is hoping to reach agreements with all of the commercial property owners that could be affected.

A former drummer for the Swedish pop band ABBA was found dead with cuts to his neck in the garden of his house on the Spanish island of Mallorca. Police said Monday an autopsy showed it was an accident.
A neighbor found the body of 62-year-old Ola Brunkert on Sunday evening at his house in a coastal area outside the eastern town of Arta, a Civil Guard spokesman told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

We can’t hit CC even in Spring Trainer.
Here’s the thing though. I am so supremely confident about this kid that the Gods could punish it as hubris. To me, this kid is a shpe-in for greatness, baring injury of course [knocks on wood a second time].
Yes, and with his arm he can play RF. I heard he pegged a runner at first yesterday in the split squad game.
Dump Show Shea. He’s a sunk cost. I’d rather Rincon.
the update guy must of went to the bathroom again.
Who faced him Future?
Show isn’t going anywhere. Especially with a decent Spring.
cc vs
a reyes
tatis
church
Doc, you know that won’t happen. What are the chances he could be traded?
Thanks, Confused.
That’s why.
Mets up by 2, 7th inning runners on 1-2, Ryan Howard up. Who would you rather in coming out to face him in descending order. Mine would be Feliciano, Rincon, and Show.
He’s lefty and breathing Shea. Some one would take him, if we sent some money along with him.
Argenis Reyes is having a better spring than Jose Reyes…lol!
I think Show could face and beat a dangerous lefty like Howard. His numbers suggest this to be the case. Rincon’s ERA this Spring hasn’t been so great. I know I haven’t seen him pitch, but a reliever who had injury issues in 2007 and has a 6.75 ERA this Spring isn’t going to merit overlooking a guy like Show, who far all of his myriad issues in 07′, was pretty damn good against left-handers.
His reactions are not good in the outfield Eli. He has the speed for CF but not the quickness. I doubt he becomes a first baseman, we just all float that because of his size.
Feliciano, Show, Rincon.
He’s currently slted for AA, Eli. They could change their minds, but that’s the latest. And they said he will continue to play center.
Both Feliciano and Show have wonderful numbers against lefties……I wouldnt hessitate bringing either in. If im just getting Howard out, then id bring in Show and save Feliciano……to me Pedro Dos can handle both righties and lefties so he should be pitching full innings whereas Show should come in to get a tough lefty out.
can I buy an “A” Vanna? the word is slated!
To me, the issue isn’t Show so much as how Willie plans on using him. I don’t see it as fair to crucify Show because the WillieGut hasn’t recognized that he’s best utilized as a LOOGY reliever.
Can I get an ‘Amen’ from the congregation!
is the game over?
Bottom Half
B:0 S:0 O:0 - Pitcher Change: Joselo Diaz replaces Ricardo Rincon.
I agree.
But at the same time we must be careful not to critize Willie (unless its painfully obvious there was other options as sometimes there will be) as there will be times throughtout the course of the season that he will have to go to show to get certain righties out so we cant kill him everytime either.
B:0 S:0 O:1 - Matthew Whitney pops out to first baseman Marlon Anderson in foul territory.
B:0 S:0 O:2 - Garrett Guzman pops out to first baseman Marlon Anderson in foul territory.
B:4 S:0 O:2 - Pete Orr walks.
getting ugly:
B:4 S:0 O:2 - Wil Nieves walks. Pete Orr to 2nd.
B:4 S:0 O:2 - Ryan Langerhans walks. Pete Orr to 3rd. Wil Nieves to 2nd.
I think it’s the bottom of the 9th Confused, with 2 outs.
thats why I never got the whole LOOGY thing to be honest.
Why waste a roster spot on someone that can only get certain batters out. Why not get a lefty who can get BOTH out…..like Pedro Dos lol.
piitb:
Justin Maxwell pops out to third baseman Fernando Tatis in foul territory.
You know one thing I’ve really liked about the Mets pitching this ST so far? We’re not walking anybody. It’s actually pretty impressive.
game over mets win
confused where are u getting the box scores?
haha nm i guess……..game over lol.
john…it’s on the Mets website
i use wap.mlb.com
Lefties that can get both hitters out are typically starters. There are not a lot of them to go around.
Agreed. But, so long as Show was the last option available or as long as the game is out of hand either way. Show should be used a lefty at a time in a meaningful inning or where there are at least 2 left-handed batters to face.
in a lot of way (except for speedy updates) I like the wap site better than the full site. Especially if you are on a phone.
really??? I been using the mlb boxscore thing and it stinks…….i didnt know there was a place that gave a detailed description of the plays
Danny he can be a righty that doesnt have extreme splits as well……..it can be anybody without extreme splits. Im looking for relievers that are good….regardless whether the batter is left or right handed.
John, there just aren’t a lot of lefties out there that pitch in the pen that don’t have extreme splits.
This is why I think pitchers should learn to throw cutters……..maybe it wont be as nearly as good as mo’s but something to at least combat the platoon advantage.
Dont ya think tho we are kinda wasting a spot? A spot that could go to a more effective reliever?
You guys are probably right.
It just gets me thinking about what Show’s real worth is to this team.
Im off guys. See ya tomorrow
I just don’t want a pen full of righties with cutters and changeups to throw at every left-hander out there. I LOOGY with a hellacious slider against lefty hitters would be a nice thing to have there too.
I’m English. If you’re not Irish and you celebrate this “holiday” god bless you but I am wearing English Red today.
as long as you don’t wear orange. some consider that an insult on this day…
don’t forget the corned beef & cabbage–so good, you’ll remember why you don’t eat it on the other 364 days of the year!
Then Godbless the little Puerto Rican muncipality of Luquillo.
If Morgan Ensberg doesn’t stick with the Yankees he would be a nice pick up for the Mets bench.
Can Ensberg play in the OF?
that’s great stuff, ramon. i spent one st patrick’s day in alexandria, egypt back in my navy days. we were ordered not to drink the local water under any circumstances. i complied by drinking strictly the locally brewed beer, which was damn good stuff. the locals were not really into the holiday, though…
BTW, bcuster. It doesn’t surprise me that Puerto Ricans are more into the festival than the Egyptians were. If there is one thing a Puerto Rican likes, its a holliday so they can have a reason to celebrate and party over something. LOL!
I’m late to the party but not one person mentioned a certain player that dominates lefties. His Name is Matt Wise. Since 2005, Wise has limited lefties to a .190 average and a .560 OPS
I think Wise is making this team.
Well, Smith certainly isn’t. And I wonder if Duaner isn’t going to start rehabbing in AAA before he makes an appearance.
I’d bet the ranch that Duaner starts the season on the DL.
That’s what I’m thinking. I mean, honestly, it’s great that he’s getting into games and pitching. I 100% think he’s going to spend most of the season pitching for the big club. At the same time, he definitely needs time to rebuilding his arm strength/general game and a 15 day stint in the minors, I think, would help a LOT.
I think Wise was on this team before spring training started. As long as he showed no ill effects from his bad second half after nailing that poor guy in the face
So who gets left off Chris? He can take Mota’s spot for now, but what happens when Sanchez comes back?
coincidence?
fyi, no green jerseys today. just green hats. nats wore green hats too.
Wagner
Heilman
Pedro2
Sanchez/Register
Wise
Show
Sosa
Register probably keeps Sanchez’s spot warm for the first couple of weeks. That leaves out Smith, Joselo Diaz, Rincon, Figueroa, Lugo, Stokes…
Thats great so my ability to get a good beer at Citi Field will be severely hampered.
My inlaws bar is one of the few in St. Louis that refuses to carry A-B products…..the distributors use Gestapo like tactics against all competitors big and small….they are evil….
shea, that’s prbly why there are rumors of Omar looking to trade some RP’s. Although it’s a gamble because register could have probs once real games start or even much later like smith last year.
doc, the thinking is that ppl won’t be able to afford anything except Bud once they pay for tickets at Citi. ;)
Ok fantasy question. Should I keep Matt Graza or drop him in favor of that Jurgens (sic) dode from Atlanta? I heard hes doing real good this spring and has good stuff. I also heard this from Mike and the angry puppy though. I know Lister is secretly in love with Garza and has posters on his wall but is he any good?
I don’t think it will be the exclusive beer….but only exclusive signage. My guess is there will be other options especially at the restaurants and some concessions.
Many large global corporations are psychopaths that can’t be arrested and put behind bars.
I don’t know enough about this Jurgens kid to give you good advice. Sorry!
Those fancy schmancy Corporate types “ain’t drinking no Bud ;-0″
Mikey and the puppy were saying he looked real impressive, as well as Eddie C. So I dunno if its coming from the greatest people on the planet. lol
I worked for Busch Creative Services for a number of years, and I’ve gone out with AB drivers and salesmen, they will crack the seal on competitors beers rendering them flat, steal point of sale pieces, taking all the entry forms off of other brewers contests are a big thing for them. They block aisles, vandalize and other nefarious acts….cut throat biz.
How was fla shea? You all bronzed up?
I don’t think Jurgens will be anything more than a back of the rotation starter from stuff i’ve read.
Russo also said today that Yunel Escobar was a much better natural hitter than Reyes. What the hell does that mean? Then a guy called and said to him…who are you taking to start a team, Reyes or Escobar? And before he could even open his stupid mouth…Francesa said….”of course he’s taking Reyes.” Reyes is a MVP candidate. Please explain to me when Mike and Chris have seen this Jurgens guy pitch? I’ll bet they haven’t. I certainly haven’t.
