Guess I’m the usual day late dollar short on any discussion from WR’s Mets Hot stove discussion from Monday on SNY, huh?
Comment posted bySuper Ton January 8, 2008 at 6:51 pm (#587566)
Can’t believe the Mets are still possibly bringing back Jose Valentin, too? Guess he must have quite the clubhouse presence.
Comment posted bydptydwg420on January 8, 2008 at 6:51 pm (#587567)
I dont think it was even discussed. I read some of Willie’s comments on metsblog.
I really don’t like Willie at all.
Comment posted bySuper Ton January 8, 2008 at 6:55 pm (#587568)
Just now reading it Dep, I kinda get the feeling that he wouldn’t have made any different moves if he had it all to do over again, and that is what upsets me the most….and I’ve been in Willie’s corner too.
Comment posted bySuper Ton January 8, 2008 at 6:57 pm (#587569)
Willie’s managing of the team in August/September is like the rat in the cage with the cheese hooked up to electricity. He just never seemed to learn.
Comment posted bydptydwg420on January 8, 2008 at 6:58 pm (#587570)
I dont like how he blamed the players pretty much entirely for it.
he could have said some stuff like hey i could have done better focusing the team and using young kids earlier and so on. hey its only his job.
Comment posted bySuper Ton January 8, 2008 at 6:59 pm (#587571)
Everyone knows that Reyes, Delgado, and the bullpen weren’t performing but it would be so refreshing to hear Willie say that maybe in hindsight now he could have sat Delgado and or Reyes for a game or two here or there. Or given some of the callups more of a chance, or something different.
Comment posted bySuper Ton January 8, 2008 at 7:01 pm (#587572)
We *already* know the team had injuries and Delgado, Reyes, and the bullpen weren’t doing their jobs, but he’s gotta take some responsiblity for the demise.
Comment posted bydptydwg420on January 8, 2008 at 7:04 pm (#587573)
instead he says delgado “was too proud” to make adjustments.
you could have helped him do it or convinced him willie.

Comment posted bydptydwg420on January 8, 2008 at 7:07 pm (#587575)
If its at the expense of Gotay, I hate it.
I’m hoping he stays at AAA and provides some nice insurance for us. I’m fine with that, in fact I like the move then.
But with Willie, ya never know. thank god we signed castillo for 4 years, otherwise stache might start LOL

Valentin can be nice insurance in case someone like Easley gets hurt and we don’t have a utility fielder.

yea, oliver rocks. I love his writing style too, very easy to read and some good humor.
he does do a nice job of closing windows for the jumpers.

Willie is always going to be pigheaded and obstinate, which is why I felt Omar should have fired him along with the fact that he deserves as much blame for the 07′ team’s late season demise as anyone connected to the organization. Too me, Mets management made a big mistake not holding him accountable for his questionable decisions.
Comment posted byITACon January 8, 2008 at 7:14 pm (#587582)
Dep, I remember when I got into a huge argument with Oliver over Heath Bell and whether or not he’d make a decent middle reliever for us. Very sharp guy.

In the Big Time, I either want a manager who’s a chess-master or a firey nut-case.
Slow steady father figures are great for Little League and suck at utilizing grown men.
In the Big Time, I also don’t want a GM who spends all his time chasing lightning with broken knees in bottles that don’t even hold water.
Blah.
