Victor D! Getting that average up over .230.

    He’s BACK.

Michael Abreu is Cuban. Bobby is Venezuelan. So doubtful (although possible). Either way, Abreu needs to be called up to Triple-A. Cut Offerman’s dead weight.

I really liked the Gotay-for-Keppinger deal. There is some good upside there.

    I Heart Jonathon Niese.

How about this Jesus Gamero kid?

Is he worth keeping an eye on?

All I could find is that this is his 6th year as a pro and he’s 22.

What’s the name of the nasty side-armer who we just picked up in the draft? Joseph Smith?

This stat is very troublesome to me:

The Mets are 23–36 against team’s with a .500 record or better this season…

Heilman and Carlos Gomez for Zito…do you do it?

Apparently Buster Olney is convinced that’s all it will take.

Of course the last time he was right I was….wait a minue, he’s never right.

DP…I thought Heilman, Maine, and Gomez could get it done. Three very solid players right there and two that can pitch in the bullpen and rotation NOW with a guy with crazy, crazy upside and is at AA. Draft picks are unknowns and I suspect that Billy does not mind getting some knowns and he would be getting back some good ones.

Of course, I like Olney’s deal better.

    JH31, it is Joe Smith…

I think you have to strongly consider it. Zito won’t be giving the Mets any kind of discount after the season, but as long as they offer him arbitration they’ll get two high draft picks, either of which could be better than Carlos Gomez. For the rest of this season, is Heilman appreciably (or any) better than Heath Bell?

Like you said, though, Buster Olney is seldom correct about anything.

Unless Beane has completely abandoned his past tendencies- he’ll likely have zero interest in Carlos Gomez- poor plate discipline- poor stat track record.

BTW has anyone heard whether or not Barfield’s son is gonna sign?

Gamero is a product of the VSL. This is his 4th season in the US. He was position player of the year at Kingsport in 2004.

Nice to see that Neise has been putting together a nice stretch while I have been too busy to pay attention!

Gotta like a 1.18 WHIP in July (although 5 HRs is bad). I think this kid has some good potential.

If we are going to throw Maine into a trade (a mistake IMHO), I guess now would be the time to do it…I mean 16 straight scoreless innings…not too shabby!
