This was not mentioned yesterday but Pelfrey in addition to having 8 k’s also had 9 ground outs. That means that only one of his outs left the infield. Wow. Does anyone know how many pitches he threw because I am still suprised they haven’t tried streching him to more than 7.
Let’s see how MacLane rebounds from his poor outing. Those crafty lefties always walk a tightrope, so this sort of game is not a complete shock. But you like to see how a guy comes back in his next start.
Good to have Gomez back. Hopefully he can get hot at the plate for a sustained period, as it would be a nice boost to the state of the system. It looks like he will repeat Double-A, but you know what, he is only 20 years old, so that is okay. Only a minor setback.
This Ring throwing sidearm thing (much like Feliciano) seems to be working. The Mets have a lot of bullpen depth to pull from if necessary.
Now let’s get Fernando Martinez back, and the full stable of good prospects will finally be active again at the same time.
Hey, who’s this guy Lima? Sounds pretty good….
4.02 ERA in AAA? Sounds like pretty good justification to bring him back up and start instead of Heilman in the case that there is need. I think there is “need” (not for Lima of course). I cannot picture Trachsel or Duque pitching consistently. And too early to tell for Soler. And what about Glavine? Hopefully, he is not reverting back to 2004 form. Anyway, each time Lima has a good outing in AAA (which is not all that often of course), I start to get nervous that we’ll see him again at Shea.
I saw that Tyler Yates is pitching for Atlanta. Did he have TJ surgery? Is he still pitching around 97 mph?
Wow, Ervin Santana is on the block. I dont understand why but if Omar could find a way to land him, I might cry in joy.
How the mighty have fallen. The once proud Braves franchise is now reduced to scraping for discarded Mets farm players to patch their piss poor bullpen. Man, if I didn’t like the Braves franchise so little I would find this to be somewhat sad. Instead, I am rather amused.
The Angels and the Mets would be a good match for a trade–they could help us with starting pitching, we could help them with hitting.
If memory serves Danny, this was Malanes third rough start in a row, although last night was his first loss. The guy has been giving up a lot more hits lately and I guess all things were clicking against him last night. I know some fans were thinking Maclane was worth a look in the majors (some said they would prefer him over El Duque), but I think the last few starts should quiet that point. Usually, guys with no stuff who are on nobody’s radar are that way for a reason.
I, too would like to see Maclane do well. I guess I wont feel totally at ease until we can develop another power lefty, all the way to AAA and beyond, to wash away the lingering bad taste of SK.
What postion does Carlos Gomez play?
The Mets gave up Yates in a trade for who? Did he make the majors?
Why? I thought they were trying to hget rid of the not good Weaver brother, now taht tehy have a good one and Colon is coming back from the DL? Why trade away good, cheap, young SP? More specifically, why look to trade such pitching (assuming everyone could theoretically be traded if enough is offerd).

They didn’t trade him. They got him from the A’s in the David Justice deal and I believe the Mets just declined to re-up his contract after his TJ surgery.
What postion does Carlos Gomez play?
He plays center…
As for MacLane, I still think his ceiling is Darren Oliver’s current role with the team in long relief/spot starting. He’s not the next Tom Glavine by far. MacLane throws in the mid 80’s where as Glavine can still hit 88 consistently and used to be able to throw a bit harder when he was younger. He’s a far cry from Glavine and more towards Moyer. However, as you can tell, there are not many Moyer’s out there so he is definitely the exception to the rule. That’s not to say he won’t be useful, but in the capacity of an MLB starter? It’s going to be an uphill battle for him in that regards. However, Michael O’Connor is doing it with similar stuff (although I have no idea if O’Connor is pretty much similar has a much better repertoire of pitches).
This guy can fly. He has unbelievable range, possibly better than C-Belt. Awesome arm as well. Better than Milledge. If he can start hitting…Look out.
Sounds like a Mike Cameron comp is possible for upside since you can’t expect a complete hitting turnaround. I will say upfront I have not looked up Cammy’s minor league numbers to know if the comp is comparable.
Not really a hitting “turn around” when a kid of his age is struggling in AA after skipping High-A. He will never hit as well as Wright or even Milledge, but he could easily become a Reyes with more power.
Didn’t realize he changed his delivery…that explains it. If he keeps it up, just think how good the bullpen can be next year with Owens and Ring added. It makes the thought of Heilman starting more palpatable (although he needs to get out of his funk for that to even be a possibility).
