Is that our Bob Keppel pitching for Kansas City?
Thats the one and only Bob Keppel
Any chance we can trade Jason Scobie for Jeremi Gonzalez?
Why is he in AAA and not Pelfrey or Owens? Can we not find a starter worthy of promotion?
If you’re the Mets Farm Director, what do you do? What DO you do?
Send him up and see what he can do at the AA level
Everyone gets promoted pretty much at the same time in about 2-4 weeks from now. By the All-Star Break Pelfrey and Owens will be in AAA. Flores and Concepcion should be in AA.
If they were promoted now, I think the All-Stars would be ineligible to play in the big game.
So, Owens probably needs to stay in AA for 2-4 more weeks simply so he will be eligible for AA allstar game??? I really like Owens - he seems like a neat guy in addition to throwing 100 mph - and worry that Minaya will package him in for second baseman.
I don’t see Minaya trading away a valued, young, and cheap bullpen arm for a second baseman who will probably be a rental for the season and leave via free agency. Omar knows that the combination of Valentin and Woodward are playing solidly and has always shown a that he prioritizes a strong bullpen founded upon live young arms. Besides, I think that Minaya also realizes that Owens’ dominant arm could provide Willie with an opportunity to move Heilman from sulking in the pen into the starting rotation when some of the veterans like Trachsel, Hernandez, and possibly (though not probably) Glavine leave to test the market.
In my dreams:
2007 rotation:
Pedro
Heilman
Pelfrey
Soler
Bannister
fill-in: Humber
2007 bullpen:
Wagner
Sanchez
Owens
Feliciano
Bradford
Lindstrom
Oliver
fill-ins: Bell, Adams
Milledge replaces Floyd. Mets win the World Series with a $75 mil payroll and silence all those who say we just buy championships like those Bronx bullies.
What about Padilla? I really liked him out of the pen and thought that although his fastball was below average, he was very reliable becuase of his exceptional command and ability to change speeds. Because of his exceptional changeup, he was also a righty who could get lefty hitters out. I know he is currently healing from his Tommy John surgery…but I wouldn’t count him out to make the staff in 07.
brandon hall for hagerstown is absolutely horrible. But I cant believe after the power cut it from 8-5 to 8-7 against him that they even brought him out for the 9th. Oh well.
argon, you don’t dream about Glavine?
My dream rotation
Zito
Pedro
Glavine
Pelfry
Soler
You have a pen with Wagner, Sanchez, Heilman(who hasn’t really ever shown he can get guys out a second time in one game), Owens, Felicano, etc.
Both ends are more effective.
Wow, do you overrate Zito. Pedro should never not be the ace. Ever.
Ten Moves that the Mets Minors should make by the end of the June:
1) Move Henry Owens Up to AAA (Why: Beside dominating AA, Owens is 27 and needs to be at AAA)
2) Release Jason Scobie (He Sucks)
3) Release Jeriome Robertson (There was a reason he was playing for Newark)
4) Release Miguel Perez (30 year old struggling at AA) and Orlando Roman (Struggling AA Pitcher)
5) Move Up The St. Lucie All Stars(Concepcion, Flores, Muniz, Devaney, and Coles) plus Jose Sanchez to AA
6) Send Hector Pellot to Brooklyn so he can get some confidence
7) Send Rashad Elridge to AAA (He has been a good find for BMets, but AAA should be his level)
8)Send Michael Abreau to AAA (at 31 he is too old for AA)(this move will also allow Andy Wilson to play 1B)
9)Get Joe Holden to St. Lucie
10) Release Alhaji Turay
1) Can’t argue with that one.
2) Scobie was a nice story last year, but he reverted to his old ways. He probably needs to be around as an organizational filler. Someone needs to throw in these games after the studs move on.
3) I agree, but he’s only a warm body there.
4) Again, warm bodies. After the new crop of rookies comes in and with the heavily drafted college pitchers, there will be movement. It really depends on where they are placed.
5) I agree with everyone here too.
6) Hard to argue that point. He’s still young and has been erratic.
7) Whatevers…not really much of an opinion here either way. He will be moved to simply make room for better prospects.
8) Has so future with the Mets, so it is kind of irrelevant. Juan Tejeda plays first though and is young with more upside. Abreu can possibly DH though.
9) Holden just moved up from Brooklyn. He needs to stay there and dominate for a while.
10) Warm body for the outfield, but it is clear he is not going anywhere.
While I agree with many of those points, I’m not a big fan of shuttling players up and down or releasing them when they are struggling. When we look at these players, we often think of them as assets or trading cards. They’re human beings with families, homes, and friends - displacing them upwards or downwards without good reason seems a bit cold for me.
I would agree with
1)
5) Concepcion probably needs to move up soon, as he is getting up there in years. The other 4 can wait or move up.
6) Pellot seems to be turning things around. I would wait on him.
8) The 1B/DH I want to see out there is Brett Harper. We should see what he can do at AAA.
I wouldn’t say Pellot is turning it around, he’s batting .189. He’s getting owned. That being said, he did not walk early on and has taken off in that category which is encouraging. He is improving in some fashion and 26 walks for him at this point after not walking for about month is tremendous. While I could understand keeping him around, he’s still just 19 and out of the Puerto Rican Baseball Academy. I’m not sure the level of competition there, but not many kids in his position have their first exposure to baseball be Low-A. He would have been in the GCL last year if he played and should be in Brooklyn at the very least and on the one level a year program.
19 = Brooklyn
20 = Low-A
21 = High-A
22 = Binghamton
23 = Norfolk
24 = Bigs
I like the kid and he is supposidly a great leader, but he simply is not a uber stud that should be where he is.
At this rate, he’ll be repeating Low-A again with having minimal success. I don’t like setting kids up for failure and think he should be put in a better spot for him to succeed and hit .270/.280. He is really getting beat up bad and his BA in April was .200, .204 in May, and about .100 in June. Getting better he has not. He has consistently struggled.
I let him play a full season at one level, if nothing else to see how the league reacts to his new found power the 2nd and 3rd time through.
His plate discipline is still awful and he’s still very young- there’s no reason to rush him at this point.
Who is this other “Bryan” of Post #14?
While I do agree with the names he has here, I must avoid any further confusion and will now refer to myself as “Albany Bryan”
My Dream Rotation:
Johnson
Grove
Clemens
Alexander
Matthewson
I mean, so long as we’re dreaming, let’s have a real good dream, huh? I’m married (and faithful, d’oh!) and my “Dream Evening” doesn’t include my old girlfriend or the “sorta cute chick” that sits down the hall from me, right?
and release Julio Ramirez…waste of a roster spot in AAA
My boy Jeff Keppinger again tonight!!!!!!! What’s with Royce Ring? Looking good….They have to give Keppinger a good chance in the majors……….what else does he have to do to prove that he is a good hitter?????????????????????????
